Looking to pay a builder a deposit to start a big build project.
Deposit is Circa £5k

I've been advised to pay on credit card as it offers me protection under section 75.

Problem is, how do i get him the funds? all he has is Bank details. Anyone got any ideas?

FYI; Builder / arangement is all very legit and above board. This is purely for addional peace of mind.

If he doesn't except card payments you can't.

You could pay his suppliers who do have credit card facilities but unfortunately your contract will then be with them.

Can you make a debit card payment to him?

How big's the project?

One of the quirks of s.75 is that protection only applies if the whole goods or services transaction falls under the £30,000. It's not sufficient for the amount on the card to be under £30,000.

So if you use your credit card to put down a £5,000 deposit while waiting for a £40,000 car to be built you have NO PROTECTION if the seller goes bust.
