Citroen Mirrors

Has anyone changed the 'mushroom pedestals' that ties the mirror to the door?

Both of mine were broken, during removal...

I've sorted the mirror end, but haven't had a chance to look at the door end, as the body is blocked in, at the back of a container, for a week or so!

There is a grub screw fitting, but I just hope that it isn't glassed or bonded in to the door...

Anybody??

Welcome to the world of door mirrors
No they aren't bonded to the door except for a large captive threaded thing unde the door skin.
There's a cheap metal tower that breaks screwed to that and the mirror bits fit to that as far as I remember.
It's the work of the devil, I'm afraid with a grub screw that cannot be accessed with the mirror in place but needs to be accessed to adjust the mirror unit.
Price in a repaint of the doors unless you take precautions before you start.

Can you tell I hate them.

Apparently Corrado mirrors fit - are they any easier?

I've just had the car Wrapped! It was the wrappers who broke them!

I've fastened the new towers to the mirrors, but I'm now guessing that I have to fit the towers to the door first! Oh well...On with the game...

Can you give me a simple 'order of fitting first'?

The pedestal just screws into the captive nut in the wing, do that grub screw up so that it's a little bit tight and then screw the pedestal into the wing. The grub screw will probably end up being tight enough to hold it in place and you wont have to touch it again if you're worried about scratching the paint.

The grub screw locks the mirror to the pedastal and can only be positioned by trial and error. If it comes loose in use you are then back to square one. To prevent this take the extra time, once correct position is assured, and remove COMPLETE mirror from the door in one piece and drill a shallow hole into the casting where the grub screw sits. On reassembly you now have a positive location for the grub screw. While your at it, grease the spring mechanism so that if a pedestrian knocks the mirror it will fold easily and not strain, or move, the grub screw.

If this is all more than you can stand, try either VW Corrado mirrors or Audi Mk 1.

All in all a complete design c***k up!

You can access the grubscrew by opening the door and drilling through the Sikaflex just below the alloy frame, and through the recess in the door where the mirror fits, the hole is covered by the black plastic cover for the bottom of the 'toadstool' frame.
I then used a bit of sikaflex on the inside of the door to plug the hole so that it is watertight and of course re seal the sikaflex at the bottom of the alloy frame.

The hole cannot be seen when the mirror is refitted
