looking into replacing the shocks on my S3, avo seems to be a popular choice. would prefer the spring adjustable type which i assume alters the ride height?

can anyone shed a little light on these, it does not state on avo's web site if they come with springs etc of how easy they are to adjust (ride height & stiffness).

need to change, as havn't been able to open the bonnet fully for ages....

Richard

I don't think AVO make a fixed spring seat damper anymore so it would have to be adjustables.

Adjusting the ride height is easy but you will need a 'C' spanner - about £4 (or free with shocks if you ask nicely ) from AVO or upto £20 from the High Street Wheels off to do this.

Damping adjustment is done via a small dial on the base of the shock.

Springs and shocks come separately - you will need to state what spring rating you want. Once the Search facility is back on-line, try trawling the S forum for suspension settings. There are stacks of posts on what people have had fitted. For reference, I have 350lbs fronts and 300lb rears. I still need to lower the ar5e end a bit but initial impressions are very good.

nice one all, thanks for the info.

are the 350 / 300 lbs around normal-ish spring rates or track use?

dont need anything too dramatic....

I think Harry, Peter and Joolz are using much stiffer springs

I have AVO's and they are fine (or they will be when they are set up properly) It depends on your budget as the set up of choice seems to be Nitrons but they are more expensive, but worth sretching to if you have the money.

These are stiffer than standard and seem OK to me for 'spirited' road use

I haven't tracked the S but I would have thought they would have been fine for occasional track hoons.

I tend to remove the wheels 1) 'cos access is sooo much easier and 2) to try and remove as much weight as possible before I wind the adjusters up and down - I am paranoid about shredding the threads on the new dampers.

I don't know about HarryW, but Peter GreenV8S and Joolz regularly track / sprint their V8s. I think Peter has 700lbs plus or some such on his beast. He can't have any fillings left
