The glass key slips in to the first position (most systems still off) but when I push it in further although the ignition systems come on, it doesn't crank the starter. Have to remove it and try a couple more times. Anyone had this? [Quick before the warranty runs outs as I'm getting NO value from it in two and a half years so far]!

Mate, I've always put mine in halfway to get the electrics up and running then put my seatbelt on, wound down the window to revel in the V12 symphony, then pressed and it's always started. I've tried once or twice to start it straight away and it's never done it. Hate to offer this advice, but have you read the manual.......?

Its definitely a new thing mate - seems to fail to connect at the final stage now and again so have to entirely remove key. Maybe I need a gunpowder cartridge like an old plane to get her going wink

Presume you have to have your foot on the brake to start an auto so could it be a dodgy brake pedal sensor?

That's a good diagnosis Pete! However I couldn't even tell you that you need to do that as its a complete autopilot situation - maybe its me that has a fault wink ! I know you can leave her in Drive and get out mind - unlike my Beemer (which slams the car into Park when you open the door to check where the kerb is - ouch)!

I had same issue http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Symptom was that bezel would not always turn red when key depressed using the Aston approved two finger method ..and therefore car would not always start. Happened more often when car was warm, and *always* when I needed a quick getaway. Solved with a new key and a new ignition switch (under warranty).

Thanks - that's the kind of 'me too' I was fishing for. Mind you Tony suggests a new battery in the thread which had crossed my mind too. Not sure how they work but if there is RF involved when it is in the slot then a good battery is needed I guess (but then teh ignition does come on...). However I am baffled as to how to open the "ECU" without a hammer!!!

It wasn't ECU battery, that was the first thing my dealer tried. (Well after checking brake pedal switch)

Is the brake pedal switch the same as the brake light switch?

I'd guess it's the pedal switch. My DB9 began to have intermittent starting problems and then one day let me down completely by refusing to start. It was the switch under the clutch pedal.

Weird, didn't realise there was a 'starting procedure'!?

I have always pushed mine all the way down to start then released it, no bother at all.

Ahh - thanks Matt - I see the problem - no clutch pedal biggrin

Seriously - its been fine for 2.5 years but now it isnt! Dont think its me!

Found two miniscule screws on the 'ECU' key and have just changed the battery - will give it a go.

My old V12V did this a few times before finally packing up on the Morgan tour. Turned out it was the battery.

Ohh dear! It starts the car but the buttons on it do nothing now - wont lock or unlock. Is there a way to re-sync it with the car? Plastic key works fine.

I also actually didn't want to start the engine so held the throttle all the way down as I pressed the key home - nothing. Have done this several times before to build up some oil pressure if she has been standing a month and it always worked fine. You just have to hold the brake pedal now or she wont start. This must all be linked to the new software that BR recently installed - I couldnt even drive away from there as it wouldn't go into gear! Was so used to just pulling back on left paddle to drop into first - but now its far less simple and it wont do that frown. #changelog

AFAIK, the ECU does not require the battery to start the car; it acts as any ordinary key with an RF chip. It does need the battery to operate the transmitter functions of course, like lock/unlock, etc.

Thanks guys - sorry its a saga for such a small thing! Put 2nd new battery in - nada, Put old battery in and its fine. Have ordered some same exact brand 'Renata' batteries and will try again when they come!

I suspect the issue is recent new software that behaves differently confusing user again - just like with the chimes issue.
