Seen Clarkson advertising this gizmo on TV and, since he's sending some by drone to his friends in Europe, the ad implies you can use it in Europe. So if I bought this could I use it on my UK TV when travelling around Europe in my motorhome? What else will I need? A satellite dish or a new SIM for my phone or what?

Anyone any ideas please?

It uses internets to get the shows, so if you have WiFi in your motorhome I guess it would work, I can imagine the data charges being mental though

its a little device that plugs in the back of you tv to turn a regular TV into a smart TV.

Works over wifi.

Someone more tech savvy than me could no doubt connect it to their phone and use that signal. But have a think about roaming data costs before you do that!

Wifi internet, a TV with a HDMI socket and either a USB port that outputs enough juice to power the Firestick or use the plug adaptor that comes with it to use the mains.

Yes, you'll need a decent broadband connection that will allow you to stream at a decent rate and not cost you a fortune.

If you can get on decent Wifi somewhere it will let you use that, BUT, you may find some of the programmes you want to watch are not available in every country, which might also be the case with using a Sim card abroad - Netflix certainly has regional locks on what it can/can't or will/won't show though I don't know about Amazon Prime Video...

You could buy a little 4GEE Wifi thing, 16gb is £23 a month.

Netflix, for example is as follows:-
  • Low Quality: 0.3gb/hr so 53hrs
  • Medium Quality: 0.7gb/hr so 22hrs
  • SD Quality: 1GB/HR so 16 hrs.
It would depend on your 4G availability of course. I am pretty sure you can configure the little WiFi hotspot to use a UK based proxy to bypass any regional issues you may experience.

The Firestick is an excellent piece of kit, especially when side loaded with KODI smile

Tuvra - do you use anything other than Exodus? (Assuming that you use Exodus).

Can you watch The Grand Tour on it without an Amazon subscription?

FWIW my dad has a <2mbps connection and his fire stick streams content easily and without buffering (I was truly amazed!) so the connection doesn't need to be spectacular.

I don't no, Exodus, for now is the king. The rest seem to have died a death. Exodus has been that good that I haven't even researched others to be honest.

With KODI (Exodus), Amazon Prime, Netflix & BBC Iplayer loaded on to a Firestick you have an amazing array of content on what is basically a USB stick.

The Firestick with its remote works a lot nicer than the android boxes I find too.

Took my firestick on holiday with me to Florida. Most of the content worked well enough.

At the risk of been told to google it myself can someone please talk me through how to get this all up and running.

Firestick arrived yesterday (looks great in the box still) but i have no idea where to start.

Also, i have a samsung smart telly. If i get the apk on that then will the same result be achieved?

Plug it into your TV and power supply.

When you turn it on, and assuming you ordered it from your Amazon account, it will already be set up in your name. There is a helpful set up video that you can then watch to see how to do everything.

Once you have it on, you can then go to Amazon Video which is pre-loaded and, if you have already subscribed to Prime, you have access to all the shows this includes. Some things cost extra such as newly released films. But most stuff is available within the cost.

There is then also the option to download additional apps, much like on a Smartphone, so that if you have a Netflix subscription, or want iPlayer or ITV Hub, you can then access their programmes as well through the app.

It is very straighforward.

Why would you? I would wait until Black Friday and buy through Amazon, I paid £19.99 for mine last year.

Honestly, do not do this, they will be available for £19.99 on Friday I guarantee, sideloading one with Kodi and then Exodus is very, very simple and there are hundreds of guides readily available online.
