master socket bedroom, tv in lounge, boosting signal to TV?
Discussion
The set up is in a rental flat and the tenant has said she needs to be able to plug her smart tv directly into the internet for it to work properly, the problem is the master socket & wifi router are in the bedroom and there is only a normal bt socket in the lounge.
I have suggested she buy a wireless dongle as this should work? Alternatively how easy is it to move the master socket or provide any other solution for hard wiring her tv to the internet? I would be using BT to do any work.
Any thoughts, suggestions or similar experiences much appreciated!

Many thanks, that looks like a good solution. Is it as simple as it looks, ie you just connect one end to your router and the other end to your smart tv? I have had a quick look on Amazon and there are a range of powerline networking solutions and prices, is there anything worth noting to ensure we get the right one and best results? The flat was a recent refurb and has CAT 5 cabling if that makes any difference.
Thanks again

I may not have understood you, but if the flat has CAT 5 cabling can you not plug a cable from the back of the internet router into the nearest CAT 5 (RJ-45) socket, then patch that to her room, then run another CAT5 (network cable) from her nearest socket to her TV? Thanks again

A wireless dongle plugged into the back of her TV may not work. If it's possible to use one with her TV, you need to check you get the correct one for her TV. They can be quite picky.

Thanks, unfortunately I am no expert on these matters and the flat is in London so I cannot call in to have a look (I am in Lancashire). What I had assumed would be a BT socket in the lounge may well in fact be a CAT 5 faceplate, would this normally also have a socket to plug in a land line phone?

I can't be sure without seeing it but...if it's actually a BT socket then no, it won't also have a port with your internal house network on it. If it's a socket that has been installed by you (your builders etc) then yes it might have both. How do you know this is a phone socket? I'm wondering if it's actually an internal networking RJ-45 network socket that has been mistaken for an RJ-11 phone socket...Edited by varsas on Wednesday 16th November 12:32
