Hi all, well i've finally done it and bought my tuscan!! 3 months of research and the first drive made it all worthwhile!!. I'm currently working in Iraq so only get to drive her every 8 weeks which is killing me. I've bought her from fernhurst and i must say that am well impressed with the company and service, I live near bath but will be taking her there once a year for servicing etc. Pictures to follow as soon as i've worked out how lol but for the time being i', just looking forward to coming back to the uk in april (23rd). Have joined the club etc and hope to meet the wiltshire, somerset and bristol guys when i'm back. iain. She is a 51 reg tuscan speed six and the reg ends in KOU if anyone thinks that familiar i'd love to find out etc.

Leaving for 8 weeks at a time? Erk. I'd come up with some kind of plan for having it driven weekly unless you want to run into a whole heap of problems from it being stuck in the "abandoned - thrashed - abandoned - thrashed" cycle.

Oh, and welcome!

Don't worry about leaving it for 8 weeks at a time it makes it all the more fun when you get back to it. I work a 6 n 2 week rota in Baku so I know what its like to be away from your pride n joy. Just make sure you warm it up good n proper before you wring its neck. Ohh yeah and may I suggest that you invest in an Accumate trickle charger to ensure the battery is kept in a fit state whilst your away. Otherwise you will be calling Fernhurst on how to get into the car when the battery is flat.....For the charger give Leven Technology a call you will find their number within these pages somewhere.

Happy Motoring when your home but watch out for yourself over there... too many loones for my likin!

No, really, do! Seals WILL perish quicker (global warming and all ), etc. if it's left for extended periods.

I agree with James on this. It also means that the top end of the engine could be totally devoid of oil everytime you start it up, which isn't ideal.

Believe someone once said that the top-end loses all oil in about 4 days? Or was it two weeks? Think it was one of those two figures that was quoted on here once (I don't know if either of these is correct). But the oil coating will drain back down. So you'll have metal-on-metal EVERY time you come back at the end of your 8 week stint.

I'd definitely see if you can get it run at least once a week (if only down to the shops and back), and I'd also consider switching the oil for Magnatec, if that stuff really works. Disclaimer: I've no idea if Magnatec really works, as I can't see how a synthetic oil can be magnetic at a molecular level. Or even whether you can get something like 5/40 or 15/40 Magnatec.

Hey its up to you...

I speak as I find and in over 20 years of working away for extended periods at a time whilst owning numerous high performance cars (other TVR's) and Bikes I have never experienced an issue attributable to the vehicle being laid up. Admitedly this is my first Tuscan, but what the hell its there to be used and enjoyed if it goes bang so what....get it fixed. However, you should know what you may be getting into. May I suggest (if you've not already done so) that you read some of the belly aches on these pages regarding the fragile speed 6 motor....

If it were any normal "high performance" car... M3, XKR, etc. I wouldn't be so worried. It's still definitely not a good thing for it, and will undoubtedly shorten the life of some components (in terms of mileage achieved), but on a car that's good for 200k, that's not usually a problem - even if you halve the lifetime... you'll likely have sold it by then.

Given that most bits on a Tuscan won't last past 50k (clutch, gearbox, engine, suspension), halving the usable lifetime could have slightly more drastic consequences. It's the engine I'd be particularly fearful for.

Nah, even when fixed, it's not the most robust block ever made... can't see many of them hitting 200k without any work doing

As an Engineer by trade mechanical sympathy is my top priority, the accumate came already hard wired into the car so no probs there. I've put the oldman on the insurance with strict warming up instructions for every weekend that the weather is good, though this does cause sleepless nights!!!!. She will get a run every weekto keep everything working nicely etc. As is the case, the speedo now stops working at 95mph so the pod is off to blackpool for a holiday while i'm away. Dad the lucky bugger gets to drive her back to fernhurst again.
