Hi, connected the battery for the first time since body off today and whilst most seems ok I have one particular lighting gremlin. For info the car now has new 50mm cables direct to starter and starter earth from battery. The original battery earth to the transmission tunnel bolt has been kept and now attaches to the battery with the new earth to starter lead. The front and rear chassis mounting earths in the boot and the near the radiator are connected.
When the dash illumination lamp switch is turned on there is a buzzing noise and the headlamps will not operate on anything other than flash. WIth the dash illumination switch turned off the buzzing noise stops and the headlamps work on side, dip and main ok. Is it possible that I have a backfeed from the dash illumination somewhere? If so has anyone experienced where the likely culprit may be?
Not quite ready to fire her up, but she cranked over nicely which feels like another milestone!

One more question if I may, the OSF door doesn't open with mirror switch, passenger side is ok. The solenoid is moving but not enough it appears to flip the catch. Is it adjustable or needing lubricant or do the solenoids get weak? Haven't had a decent look at it but any pointers most welcome.

The solenoids do get weak. You can replace them quite cheaply with a Maplins or one off ebay. Behind the seat, there is a flap of carpet covering the door electrics that is held down by velcro. It's awkward work rather than difficult.

Did you disconnect the light control module or the ribbon cable from there to the switch?
If yes then you may simply have the ribbon cable reversed as they can be plugged in either way.

I would suspect the earth connection on the offside tunnel top. Due to the position of these body bolts it is difficult to make sure they are clean when putting back together. Also there are, I believe, 4 ring terminals on each of these 2 body bolts so it is quite easy to miss one.

Thanks Steve will check today. Don't remember seeing any on the OS top tunnel bolt so I may well have missed them.
Cheers Adrian

Just checked my 97 (in bits at present) and there are two ring terminals on each bolt.

Top advice as always Steve, many thanks.

Silly me, fitted a new bolt to OSF tunnel and left the two earths dangling on the old bolt tucked away inside. Fitted and all good now.

A few odd bulbs out and a door locking solenoid not working but all in all pleased with what's been tested so far.
