Dash Cam beginner.

Can anyone please help with info re hard wiring of a dash camera (don't want to pollute the other worthy thread)? I’m expecting Mrs to astound and surprise me with a pressie soon and would like to avoid wandering cables. Ideally, a direction to a “How To” would be favourite with wiring to a supply that is dead when ignition off. The cigar lighter is not an option. Car is Rover 75. Thanks.
You can fit a 'fuse tap' into the fuse box, terminated in a spare cig lighter socket. Then run the wire up the A pillar. Plastic bike tyre levers are good for tucking the wire behind plastic panels or headlining.
The dashcams tend to use 5 VDC with a USB socket in the side. So *don't* cut the plug/convertor off and wire to 12VDC.
I don't where the fusebox is on your car, but there was enough room in mine to fit a double cig socket, wired to the fuse tap/ earth, to drive the sat nav and the dashcam.

Today I received a 12v to 5v adaptor I bought off Ebay to power my newly purchased dashcam.It has a micro usb connector like my camera has.But it doesn't.It seems there are various types of micro usb connectors and mine doesn't fit so if you go down this route be fore warned.The easiest option for me is to splice the power wires rather than to try and source the correct adaptor.The dashcams tend to use 5 VDC with a USB socket in the side.
