Gas fires

Ok, sorry it's not a motoring subject, but, we are looking to replace the existing solid fuel fire with a "living flame" type of LPG fire, rather than Natural Gas which doesn't exist up here, (except near the back end of farmyard animals).
Anyone any experience of either the open or stove types of fire, running on LPG. I have been told it's like throwing pound notes up the chimney but need other opinions. (We have had natural gas type fires in the north east of england).

Considered putting a real fire in there instead?

Only really applicable if you have an old house, but by crikey is it nice to sit in front of a fireplace of blazing coals and slowly crackling wood.

Total cost was probably around £1200, but I reckon if I ever sold the house its made it more saleable. Best thing is, my cats love the fire!
