Can anyone recommend a supplier for a new chassis for a 99 Chimaera? It would just be supply only. Cheers

RT Racing, I believe they have a jig and do plenty of chims and griffs, although I also believe a few other places are in the same boat now, plenty of info on here and a few sources for a new chassis.

Perhaps the perrfect time for a Sportmotive chassis if funds stretch that far and not concerned about originality? cloud9

Hi Jamlee, have you got pictures of your current chassis please?

It's always a discussion topic about TVR chassis's at that time of manufacture where the so called powdercoat was of poor quality.

IMHO, it's mostly down to good maintainance over the years and not driving on salt roads too often.

Thanks for the info, I had a quick look at both and liked the idea of the sport motive option, but as you said depends on price! It's in at a local garage so will upload pics when I'm next down. I've only had the car 2 years, but think it was probably too late for the chassis as I've looked after the car. Just weighing up whether to bite the bullet and get a new chassis or patch it up. Thanks for the help

I believe places like RT can repair your chassis to a level somewhere beyond "patching up" wink

As we are too far away to be a viable option for the OP this is not an advert but just to say we have yet to meet a chassis we cannot repair viably. By viably I mean repair still being a cost benefit over the price of a new chassis.

Southways and RT racing can repair your chassis up to a brand new looking piece of porn. They can replace any section that has gone to far with the old tin worm. Take a look on their web sites

Like Steve from Southways who l have no affiliation with and Heath from X-WORKS and Dom from power are all highly recommended specialists on here, are a font of TVR knowledge.

They will give you honest facts about TVR repairs without emptying your pockets smile

We think so too & if you want you can get the chassis also in stainless steel.

Look a few pages back on the What did you do in the garage yesterday thread and there's a lovely chassis that's been galvanised then painted and it looks the business and appears to look like it will be here for decades to come. smile

Hi all Recently had my chassis done at R T Racing although I thought mine was bad they said it was a good one compared to a lot they had seen and repaired . Was well happy with end product and is that good I think I will be worried about using it in case it gets chipped . Had out riggers ,some of main chassis box section, tube under manifolds and brackets replaced then zinc coated and powdered coated. If anyone wants to view their work I still haven't completed rebuild so chassis is not back under body . I am in Northampton area

This is mine and where its at, at the moment, chassis has had outriggers replaced and came back from the powder coaters on Thursday and this is how far they had got by Friday, chassis was very good and could of got away with just the outriggers being replaced and painted and just a touch up here and there on the chassis. But can't see the point in having half a job done as its lasted 18 years with a ste powder coating job so will last a lot longer now it is going to be done properly

Was it dip galvanised or hot zinc sprayed?

We have chassis 'hot zinc sprayed' which is a process using a gas torch with zinc wire fed into the flame. The end result is a finish almost as resistant as dip galv but with the advantage it has a very slightly porous surface which gives an excellent key for subsequent paint or powder coat application.

The process looks very much like a paint spray gun.

I had my chimaera body lifted in 2011, my chassis was etched primed then powder-coated before rebuild, so far no problems with the powder coat cracking or losing its co-hesion to the steel, but if i could turn back time I would have had a coat of hot zinc spray first smile
