Shining up the aluminium bits.......

Sad, I know, but I am going to tidy up the engine bay a little bit. What good products are out there which will give the aluminium bits a good shine. i.e header tank, plenum, alternater etc.

BTW.I don't want to use too much elbow grease.

Any suggestions greatfully received.

A wife or girlfriend should do the trick!

I will be looking at this with interest as mine could do with a tidy up.

Either Autosol or Autoglym Metal Polish will do the job. After cleaning a good spray of WD40 (or on the swirl and water tanks, a light coating with Vaseline) should help keep it nice.

If the engine's all gunked up, I'd recommend Autoglym Engine Cleaner, but take care to protect all electrical/other sensitive bits as you'll need to rise the stuff off with water.

I'm afraid that elbow grease is pretty much the only way to go though...

Never tried them on the engine but I've used autosol and duraglit on other shiney bits...

I use Autoglym on the plenum and rocker covers along with a toothbrush to aggitate the dirt and then a soft cloth to polish it up at the end.

It works very well (although you'll always find something with a cleaner engine than your own)...

strange I have just stopped for a cuppa and was doing exactly what you want to do at the time. I have been using duraglit and it all shines up great with a little elbow grease not to much though

hope all goes well with the clean up

But WD40 also acts a degreasant, silicon spray doesn't.

I know plenty of people who regularly spray with WD40 with no ill effects.

Hi Dave, I wont be able to make it on Sunday..I'm going down to Silverstane to attend the Autocar drift school on the Monday.

I havn't checked sprint yet..will be looking tonight..thanks for letting me know.
