Hi all,
I've recently noticed that when in driving at 30/40mph I can hear a sort of screeching noise which stops when I brake. Took it to my mechanic who changed my front pads and discs (quite worn). Rear pads were changed in August and rear discs seem fine. The noise is back however, so I'm thinking maybe theres a stone or something stuck in my brakes lol? I've also noticed slower acceleration since the issue began, don't know if its related or if its just me. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Sticky caliper(s) or piston(s) not retracting?

It could be a stone but more than likely one of your rear brakes is binding. A thorough clean and lilube of the sliders on the caliper should solve it.

I am no mechanic by any means but lubing the pistons on your caliper will take about 20 mins. It's 2 bolts, pop off the caliper , take the pads out and retract the piston with a g clamp and spray in some lubricating fluid/ grease under the rubber gaiters and then pop it back together. It happened on my mk 5 rear brake.

Feel the outer centre of your alloy after a run. If its hot to the touch you have a binding brake.

The rear caliper pistons need turned as you push them in, you can't just clamp them in.
But I'd agree probably rear caliper sticking or rear splash plate bolts rusted away

Thanks for the suggestions smile After my journey to work this morning I put my hand near my alloys and found that passenger side rear alloy was warmer (but not hot) than the others. I don't know if this is because my exhaust is on that side too. Worth investigating?

Nothing to do with exhaust.
Probably a sticking calipers. Very commom

It may also be a stone lodged between thendisc and backing plate....take caliper off inspect, try to wind it back, if its stiff replace.

I'm guessing a lot of problems on here are caused by the wife? Lol
Mechanic took apart rear caliper gave it a clean, applied grease etc. When he tightened it back and spun the wheel he said it was stiff and caliper needs replacing. Now i don't know if thats an indicator or hes fobbing me off but i'm gonna see if the noise is still there.

He's not trying it on, it's new caliper time , as said very common
