What does one have to do to get pulled over when driving a TVR around town.
Ive seen it said "So long as you're not being stupid...etc" but where approximately is the line drawn?
I very rarely light up the rears, never usually exceed 35, but I do spend a lot of time popping and banging in 2nd. The volume of my cerb is insane. Its loud, very loud, set off alarms daily etc, some of the pops and bangs are supersonic in volume (and its also a very poppy cerb) I enjoy it, but it worries me at the same time.
Ive got local TVR mates, and we're often hooning about, several times a week usually, often through town.
Bit paranoid, wondering if the bib see us in the same light as the boy racers, or have more respect for TVR owners who naturally have loud cars? Last night they followed us every which way we turned (including doubling back on ourselves) and even following eezeegeezer home.

my view is if we keep going round the town they will get to know the cars and eventually pull you over out of curiosity then have a good look around the car to see if anything is not as it should be. I know your pops and bangs are legal I hope, but they will draw more attention than anything.

Suspect that cars will go the same way as bikes. EU approved exhaust systems and this being policed in a similar way.
I noticed at my local TVRCC meeting on Sunday a Police Traffic vehicle pass the Meeting Pub on three occasions. He needs to go out of his way to do this. I suspect its because of complaints about noise from the cars. If I lived in the same village, I too would complain.
Fisrt time I've seen this in 25 years of attending meeings but with TVR owners boasting 136db from exhausts on road cars I guess its a matter of time before noise legislation is enforced for cars.
Edited to add, - why would you not expect to be classed the same as some boy racer just because you drive a TVR with a noisy exhaust and not a Nova.

I got pulled within days of buying the T350.
Was doing 36mph through the main street (30 zone), and noticed a cop car pull out about 3 cars behind me.
Though to myself, bollox to this, I ain't stopping, so turned down a side street, and then immediately down another, to 'shake him off' ...........
unfortunatley, I had turned into a cul-de-sac a looked a right tit as we drove past, stopped me, and then reversed to have a word.
In the end he only wanted to know if it was my car, as 'a lot of nice cars have been getting nicked recently'.

Have you got your Tam yet John?
I was supposed to collect my T2 today but they've just rung to say it won't be ready until tomorrow.

Well, because I dont drive the same streets aimlessly for hourS on end at night making as much noise as possible (you can see them here going round, and round, and round
and round. And round - people get irritated, especially at night. I never give it welly in places I know people have made complaints (dont want to upset them, unlike boyracers who dont care and have already upset many members of the local public)
I never pop and bang down my own street thinking of those that live near me. Its one thing to hear a noisy car, no worries. But to hear it all the time, or daily is too much for some folk. Im being mindful, thats all.
I am forever keeping my speed down rather than trying to see how fast I can go like they do, in practise my driving style is the opposite of a typical boy racer, but I fear because my car is noisy, and we do drive in convoys, I might be labelled one.

Its not really a wind-up, but I do belive there is a growing issue with exhaust noise levels - especially at the point where they set off car alarms and annoy "normal" people. Glad to see you are thoughtfull enough not to be too noisy where you live, but I geuss the Nova boys are the same!!
Two points to consider
There are degrees of being a boy racer.
We never see oursenlves as others do
Unrepentant, Its Lindas car and we collected it on Monday, its fine and just needs running in. A socially acceptable sports exhaust is being fitted at 1000 mile service.

For the most part I reckon its down to being sensible in and around town/housing. If you become a regulat pain in the backside people will complain and BIB will have to act.
Every Sunday during summer bikers used to hammer down a long straight fast bit of country road, sounded just like a race track. The bikes must have been hitting well over the 130mph heading to our village. As soon as they arrived at the village they would creep along at 30mph and then the other side of the village open them up into the countryside. Not a single complaint from people in the village.

After a shop keeper by some lights came out and shouted at us a few weeks back (to the tune of turn that racket off) I creep by that shop as quietly I can now (which in stealth mode is still a thunderous roar 
)
Sod it! I do have fun with the revs from time to time, probably do stay in second too much, but am otherwise as thoughtful as can be so theres no sense in worrying about what might never come to pass.

I used to get stopped a lot when younger, but I was an 18 year old driving £100 knacker's around.
Some policeman have a mental picture of "he's gone & got the best car he can (£100 quid's worth), can he afford the £500 insurance ?"
In my Tiv, a tad older now, I'm driving around with no front plate on & they don't bother me at all.
I drive sensibly around the residential area's as not to nause the bib & the neighbours (scratches can be expensive) and save 4th & 5th for the odd motorway.
So far so good

I supsect you already knew the answer to part of your question.
I think it is, as you say about being mindful, but....we have tended (Rob) to hit town everyday and sometimes going thru' it a lot more than once!! and altho' not residential, the same shopkeepers, workers, etc will eventually say something - If you hoon constantly in the same areas you are gonna be tarred with the same brush as the boy racers.
Need to hit other city centres.......with lots of long winding roads between them!!!

How about hooning along the coast to Brighton one afternoon/evening in a week or so's time? When I get my car back
Im sure Ive upset a local or two in the past, but you boys and me could do a proper job on them
ive rolled in at 3.30 in the morning and have tried to roll all the way to my house to keep the noise down trouble is my drive is slightly inclined doh
so if im that late in i dont bother to put him in the garage, my neighbours are nice on both sides and havn't complained yet but im sure that other people down the road get cheesed off with it,there is a guy down my road who has a aprilia rsv milne 1000cc v twin with a racing pipe and i often here him tootling past at some obscene hour bless i havnt been stopped in him yet but im sure i will at some point although i have been followed i dont mind being stopped as long as they are pleasent enough. its when they have an attitude for no reason that it bother's me but that goes for anyone

I am aware that it is the policy of a certain police force NOT to prosecute bikes for having noisy exhausts.
Don't know if the policy extends to cars, save to say I have been in my local Magistrates' Court practically every day for the last ten years, and I have never come across anyone being prosecuted for a noisy exhaust.
I expect that it just gives Plod an excuse to stop you and make sure that your papers are in order...

We have owned our Griffith for nearly 4 years and have never been tugged by the police.
Within a week of buying the FTO Mr Big gets a tug when out driving it. Plod was questioning the size of the rear numberplate - which is legal - although smaller than a normal plate - it is allowed as the recess is too small to accomodate a large plate with standard letters.
I now keep a print out of the regulations in the glove box incase we get pulled again.
