We've got a high pressure area sitting over us for several days, sub-zero temperatures and not an air molecule is stirring.
So what percentage of our electricity requirement is coming from wind today? I suspect that'll be a big fat 0.
Let's hope the base load is up to it!

Certainly as I flew over your part of the world yesterday, nothing was turning on those big wind farms.

Like the Germans with their current build-fest of new coal fired stations? Cheap, reliable, pretty damn clean now. thumbup

I was just about to post that. I work in the industry and find it fascinating.

Even for the long term as it's pretty "clean" (waste disposal aside) and efficient. Just a shame they cost so much in the first place.

Pretty windy down here in Devon today. Although not sure if all the fields full of solar panels that have recently sprung up are doing much today.

From what I understand the latest offshore windfarm bid in Denmark is at a price which is basically subsidy free (Kriegers Flak). So soon it might be time to update some of the arguements against wind, wink

IIRC solar panels still generate on a cloudy day, presumably if there was no solar energy coming through then it would be dark! (That may not be completely true, but sounds logical!)

True, but they do operate a lot better on a properly sunny day.

Plenty windy here and I expect more so off shore. Our solar PV panels (I think we have 96) will do some generating on a clear night.

The wind farms off the North Kent coast should be generating a fair bit, its been blowing a gale for two days now.

Where I live, clear night and a full moon = you can pretty much walk around without any street lamps or even a torch. Its very bright (relatively). I would guess they aren't generating much and perhaps nothing beyond powering a few lamps but they will produce something!
