Pirelli Sottozero.
For a UK winter is it overkill?
How do they perform on a dry crisp winters day?
etc etc
many thanks

I haven't put mine on yet, but have in previous years. Pirelli Sottozero.

Other than a being a bit wooly when pushing on - the movement on the tread blocks is noticeable, it's much better for the majority of the winter.
That said, at the time I was on the Corsa and now I'm on the PSS which I'm more confident with in less than perfect conditions, so I'm still slightly on the fence as I don't know if I'm realistically going to rack up the miles over winter this year.
If you think you're going to want to do a number of spirited drivers over the winter, the Sottozero are the one to go for in my eyes. I bought mine from Hornbaek after he sold his car, so he'll also be able to give a view if he sees this.
I've been swapping over from Pzero Corsas to Sottozeros over the winter months for each of the last 6 years, usually around end Oct, and back again end March. While you do feel a bit of movement due to the bigger tread blocks when pressing on, I definitely have much more confidence in the cold temp / wet condition capabilities of the Sottozeros tyre, so for me it is a must do swap.

I had a set of Sotto Zero for my V12V. Excellent - allows for a degree of confidence that would not be there on the standard P Zero Corsa. Allowed for year round use of the car. Good investment.Pirelli Sottozero.

Yes, check my profile picture. They went on last week for the sixth winter (they wear a lot better than the Corsas - perhaps because they spend less time moving sideways on the tarmac). I generally have them on for four and a half months, so they get a bit more than half the annual wear that the Corsas get.
They make a big difference. On cold mornings, the Corsas are so hard that you can hear the tread being dragged on the tarmac in low speed manoeuvres. The Sottozeros mean far fewer sightings of the TC light. In heavy winter rain, they will improve your confidence levels enormously. If it snows, they make all the difference between moving and not moving.
On a really lovely, dry day, on a nice B road, you will find that they make the steering feel less accurate, but on balance, they make the car more driveable though the winter, even without snow.
