Tranny tunnel central heating

Hello Mercedes people!

First query about a new purchase...2009 350 CGI V6 E class coupe.

Noticed today that the drivers side plastic side panel to the centre console gets pretty warm to the touch. Carpet just below is quite cool and no heat sink to "gear knob" or other parts of the centre console....passenger side plastic side panel also perfectly cool. Noticed too that the rear air vents are significant warmer than the fronts even when turning off zone control.

Is this normal? Seems a bit strange...but am new to the car so not sure.

Any advice/thoughts/abuse appreciated!

Noticed this on my CLS, the rear heating was set to face melting, turned it down and it was fine.
