I have a spare set of VW Classix 7Jx17 (ET54) wheels from my 2006 Golf GT which I have used in the past with Winter tyres. I am contemplating getting a Golf R in the (hopefully) near future and was wondering if those wheels would fit the "R".

I know the "R" has 18" wheels as standard and I have some concern if there would be sufficient clearance under the 17" wheels for the brake calipers. I am assuming the bolt pattern and PCD are the same.

Can anyone confirm or otherwise??

How much clearance have you got between the caliper and the wheel? In my impreza its like a cigarette paper but on my RS theres quite a distance.

Exactly the point of my question. I don't have the "R" yet and I'm interested to know IF the 17" wheels will fit.

I don't think they will fit. VW usually spec smaller wheels than standard for their winter tyres but for the R they spec 18"

Thanks for that. I had a feeling they would but it's useful to have the confirmation.
