Hi All, I'm looking to buy a 650s Spyder in the next couple of months. Have driven one at McLaren Birmingham and also driven a 570s that a mate has. The 650s just did it for me. But like some info so I don;t buy one that will never sell again.
Colour is obviously very personal and currently like the Storm Grey or Volcano Red, possibly black. But are there any colours to avoid ? or that sell really well. Also any interior colour suggestions ?
Any views on buckets seats.
Any must have on the options. Lift seems a must have, but what else ?
Warrenty obviously want to get as long as possible, but any suggestions.

Sorry it's a long list, I've read a lot of the posts on here, but welcome any views.

Thanks in anticipation. smile

No such thing as a bad colour - they all resell - so get what you want (the volcano colours are really hard to match, so check for non matching panels)

Sports exhaust
Parking
Bluetooth
Carbon console
Black interior with contrast stiching (although this will reflect in the windscreen)
Memory seats
Carbon buckets are really desirable

Lift is not essential (but desirable)

There is a facebook group with 170 mclaren owners - so great source of knowledge

It's amongst top cars I am looking at.

Thoughts about buying from Non Mclaren dealer, although I have seen comments about how good AlastairBols is smile

Alistair is a top bloke. Nothing but good things to say about him.
Ex McLaren main dealer so very knowledgeable and really helpful about all things McLaren.
Car will have a years manufacturer warranty still left on it but if you want to extend it further I'm sure he can help.
With that spec the car looks like a bargain to me. I know I wouldn't sell mine ( similar spec ) for that sort of money.
With 12C prices rising and underpinning 650s I don't think you can go far wrong on any 650S sub £180k

Hi Sprint Champ and welcome to the forum.

You won't go wrong with a 650S - get one bought now whilst there are deals to be had and before the prices will go up again in Jan.
IMO the essentials are lift (I've never had to use it but have been told it really hits resale without it), as much c/f as possible and a sports exhaust (sounds great with the rear window open or dropped).
I've tried the bucket seats in a 675LT and they do feel special but they are very rare to find on a 650S.
Colour is very subjective and will show off the curves/shape of the car in different ways. IMO a McLaren should be in a bold colour such as red, green, yellow or orange (Tarocco orange is my favourite and looks amazing in the sunlight).
There is much more info available over on McLaren Life and a very active Facebook Group for us UK owners.

My recommendation is to buy from a McLaren dealer (Brum are great to deal with - that's where I got mine) to get the official warranty.

Let us know as to how you get on.

Thanks for replies guys.

Whilst I tend to agree about a bold colour for a McLaren, I do like the look of the Volcano Red.

Drove a car with bucket seats and they were good but not a lot around.

Agree about possible rise in Jan, hence looking now.

Buckets are great but you do sacrifice the leather, 4 way adjustment, electric heated and memory with comfort exit hence why they are rare as most people prefer the ease of access and exit, comfort and convenience of the standard sports seat which has a good shape and decent side bolsters.

If you are going to a lot of track days that's when the buckets come into their own for the extra support but for regular use the standard seats are probably better overall IMHO

I have to disagree on the seat issue.. I've had a 12c with normal seats but specced the buckets on my 650 spider. They transform the driving experience, are hugely comfy on long runs, better for left foot braking and let you sit lower in the car. I do have a vested interest as my car is for sale with Alastair.. and is probably the one out there to buy!

Thanks Rambo, that had crossed my mind for a road car. Not particularly planning on tracking it much, have already got a car for that. But I did try a 570s on track which was impressive, interesting how you could push it harder than it should really go and the electronics really wouldn't let you. Mind I didn't have it in Race as not my car.

Personally I love buckets and have had that or at least a racing style seat in most of my previous cars.

I don't like the non racing style seats on a 458 however with the 650S I thought the standard sports seat has got a nice shape and decent side bolsters to it without being so hardcore.

As the OP has mention resell I think the standard seat appeals to more people as some will miss the comfort and convenience as well as struggle even more to get in and out of the car.
I'm lucky in that at an athletic 5' 9" and 68 Kg I'm still nimble enough to exit with dignity.

I'm not saying they are a better drivers seat but just better overall unless you have a hardcore LT coupe for the track.

And yes the black car with P1 seats is lovely but maybe not quite as lovely as the Volcano red but I am biased and not selling mine

Good comments, thanks. I do prefer the Volcano Red or a Storm Grey. Missed out on a grey with buckets as just at start off search. But that's always the way wink

Been there got that T shirt, got rid of it, thankfully biggrin

Nope.. never had it on my 12c either and never felt I needed it. I have a bit of a ramp into my road and that doesn't even bother it. Certainly nothing like as bad as gt3's etc I've had before.

650S front splitter is lower than 12C where I would agree Lift wasn't essential.

I use my lift a lot over speed bumps etc.. but having the expensive carbon fibre exterior pack I don't want to chance scuffing that beautiful carbon fibre front splitter. Its just peace of mind.
For the majority of people I guess its desirable but for others it will be essential though
