My Vauxhall's past and present

Hello PH,

Been lurking here for years now and having just had my password reset so I can actually log into my account I thought I would post a little bit about my past and previous motors. First time posting so hopefully the photo's work!

First up 2006 Vauxhall Corsa C 1.2 SXi - I bought this car when I was 16 and passed my test in it. By the end of ownership I had carried out many modifications which I won't list as it's not a very 'PH' car but I will post a picture anyway. Unfortunately I only have 1 decent photo of the car on my photobucket account:



Next up my 2013 Corsa VXR. Was out browsing various forecourts with my dad when I came across this and after a bit of negotiation I decided to treat myself for my 18th birthday. Couple of photo's of the car in its prime... I did bits of paintwork on this and added some nicer little touches to make the car my own. Best additions were the Milltek exhaust which sounded great and a set of lightweight ATS wheels stolen from an Astra Nurburgring edition which filled the arches rather nicely.







I loved this car and let it go too soon. I made the mistake of defecting to Renaultsport. I bought an R26 F1 Team Megane and hated it, so much so I sold it in 3 months for a loss because I wanted rid of it badly. I was missing my Vauxhall's and still had my Nurburgring wheels in the house so I went out and bought my current car, 2008 Astra VXR. I bought the car in January this year looking like this:



Again, added some of my own touches to this one and this is how it's looking right now:





Just put the car on it's Snowflakes for Winter:



Since January I have been buying parts for it and now I'm happy with how it looks I have plenty of additions lined up to make it more powerful! When the Winter is over I will be having the parts fitted and getting the car remapped, I'm hoping for around 300bhp, which should be pretty mad

Did you change the grill on your first vauxhall?

Yes, it was the Opel equivalent. Not many people had them at that time. With that and the Mattig boot lip fully smoothed into the boot it made the car pretty unique at the time.

Peformance mods planned?

First Corsa is definitely not to my taste but we all were young once.. good to see you've matured too! All your cars look well cared for, a young car enthusiast is a rare thing nowadays, the "chav" generation has disappeared with their Max Power Saxos and Corsa B's, replaced by the "council" generation in leased A3's, Golf's and Focuses.

Haha not literally stolen! The parts I have waiting to be fitted to the Astra are: AEM cone filter with direct route pipe, Airtec intercooler, Piper 3" Turbo back exhaust, will need mapping to suit. I have also got a Whiteline rear anti roll bar for it, some Yellowstuff pads and upgraded brake fluid. Belt and water pump will be done at the same time.

I loved that Corsa at the time. It was the car I wanted since I was very young. But I would like to think my modifications are a bit more subtle and grown up now! I do try and look after my cars as well as I can. I have certainly spent a lot of money maintaining the 3 of them over the years. Thanks for the kind words

Looks quite nice, not a big fan of the first Corsa but to me it looks like it's been modified properly and not a half-job.

I really enjoyed my Astra VXR, cheap to run, cheap to repair and cheap to upgrade, I had mine remapped and it really improved the power delivery, responsiveness and fuel efficiency.

Thanks, it was done properly the Astra isn't much more expensive to run than the Corsa VXR was which is nice. The Astra feels well screwed together compared with the Corsa's. I will update when I have had a bit more work carried out on the Astra!

Lovely car history mate. You were very lucky to get a Corsa VXR at 18. I'm 24 and insurance on one of them is still daft! Nice touches on each aswell to make them your own.

I'll be honest, i'm really not a Vauxhall fan at all but i do quite like the VXR Range, especially the Corsa. Just out of curiosity, what was it about the R26 that you hated so much? The Megane is the car i'd pick over all of these but, saying that, I am a big fan of RenaultSport.

Insurance seems to have gone up in last year or two but it is still reasonable on the Astra considering all the modifications are declared as they should be.

I went for the Megane as Renaultsport are supposed to be the ultimate drivers hot hatch, obviously the Megane is turbo with an LSD which is why I chose it over a Clio. To be honest I think I may have bought a bad one but I'll never have another Renaultsport. The gearbox was horrible to use, the interior felt very cheap (even compared with my Astra which is similar build year) it rattled and squeaked absolutely everywhere I went and I can't stand that, believe it or not the Astra doesn't. In my opinion the Corsa vxr and Astra vxr were way better cars than the Megane was, I never had much passion for the Megane which did not help it's case in the end so I had to take the loss and move on - couldn't stand driving around in something I didn't like!

I live in Manchester and the "M" postcode is one of the worst out there unfortunately

Fair play. It's all subjective. The R26 Megane is regarded very highly but that doesn't mean everyone will bond with it. There's nothing wrong with that either, just horses for courses. I think you have to be a definite fan of the RS brand some-what to really enjoy their products. They do have stupid driving positions and interiors from Fisher Price that, no matter what, some people just can't put up with and stops them gelling with the car.

Anyway, enjoy the Astra mate! These can become proper weapons and can run some shockingly high power when fettled with, as i'm sure you'll find out

You are right, it's all subjective and Renaultsport is just not for me after that bad experience. I'll probably stick with my VXR unless I come into a lottery win! Lol. 300bhp should haul it along quite nicely! I will update when the work has been carried out.

Welcome! There aren't many Vauxhall people here, but I'm one of them. Astra H for me too - just an SRi Turbo 200 though, so the one below yours.
