Any recommendations for an aftermarket warranty for a V8 Vantage? Google brings up warrantywise and they have offered a policy but no idea on whether they quibble or are reliable. Anything else to compare?

Weighing up a self-insured pot versus an aftermarket policy.

Self insured pot gets my vote, the warranty does not cover the expensive bits that wear out anyway; clutch, suspension, disc n pads.

The most expensive thing ive had wear out are wheel bearings. You need to get the hub pack for a few hundred quid then fitting. Not much change out of £500 fitted depending where you go. I had 3 out of 4 bearings replaced over 9.5 years.

Cheers Mark - minded to agree and has always been past philosophy. Mind you, did manage to scrape my old Boxster S in the AA £500 warranty cover thing as at the time it covered Porsches up to 3.5L! Porsches were soon excluded from the scheme when it came to renewal!

I had the AA cover on my old L322 Range Rover - it paid for itself a few times over with 3 breakdowns resulting in few hundred quid bills each time.

I've just had my renewal for the Warranty Direct policy that came with my car (custom policy that included AM main dealer labour rates), the renewal is £1653, which seems rather extreme, I'm sure its less than that for a main dealer warranty (which covers more).

Email from main dealer for a V12V:

Afternoon Dave,
As discussed

12 month Premium warranty £2132.69
12 months plus cover £1680.95

I have attached the T+C’s for your perusal.

I will keep you posted this week with the warranty assessor also.

Mike

At that rate, I now have £8,265 available for mechanical problems.

Self insure is my way.

Wow, the warranty has jumped up since last I asked, just got a quote from the dealer for £1922.57 (plus £358.20, even though it was only serviced a few weeks back, when they apparently do a full check).

Passenger side door is starting to only lock intermittently, will have to get the module changed before the warranty runs out.

Sounds like its been worthwhile !....now you get to pay the warranty "just in case" for the next few years and pay some money back into the pot wink

isnt that how it works and how the warranty insurance company turns a profit, for every 1 payout there are another 10,20, 50 customers with few (if any issues) . If the warranty costs are going up, its perhaps not tooooo good a sign. it means they have underestimated the cost/ratio of claims.
....still, £1600 a year to insure a premium, expensive car is not so bad, when you consider how much more mainstream car policies are......

With that track record, I would be buying warranty too.

It does seem unfair David, that some Vantages can go for eight years with only a few inconsequential faults, whereas others have continual and expensive problems.

Even with warranty meeting the cost, you have had to deal with the inconvenience. I hope your car will now be better behaved.
