Is it possible to fit a tow bar to a 2 Series, specifically an M2?

Someone has done it in the US, might have to get the parts from there.

I'm assuming it's for towing the caterham on your pic rather than extreme caravanning or timed runs to the tip?

Not legal to do this in the UK, as the car isn't homologated for it (on M235i, M240i, and M2).
If you wanted to fit a towbar to use with a bike rack, that's ok, but you can't "tow" with it.
No towing weight on the VIN, therefore not allowed as per construction and use regulations, therefore not insured... you see where this is going.

M5 can tow, though.

That and the B8 S4 are the only interesting cars I've managed to find capable of towing.
