Great stuff. Was this with Stallion 51 in Florida?

I've read that Lee is a very good guy to learn to fly the Mustang with. It's still an ambition of mine to do this biggrin

You really must do it. You only live once!

Lee is not just a great pilot he is also a fantastic instructor. It was not until I had tuition in America that I realised how bad instruction and in fact most of my education has been.

Lee never says the "no" word. Even if I had made a pig's ear of some manoeuvre he would always say something like

"That was real nice but let me show you how to make it a little bit easier on yourself"

The result being that instead of being rattled and withdrawing into my shell, he made me feel as though I was the best pilot in the world (which of course is a long way from the truth!) and therefore fly better.

Here is the final landing at Kissimmee

I found Stallion 51 as I was taking my Seaplane rating at Jack Brown's Seaplane Base not far away

This was because my dear father was training at Pensacola in WW2 on Catalinas and always told me that I was not a proper pilot until I had my water wings!

Another adventure while I was waiting at Winterhaven was a ride in a Vultee Valiant owned by a nice old boy who was an ex airline pilot and had retired to Winterhaven on "Aviation Drive" where he had a large hangar on the end of his house and a trackway leading to the main runways.
Father also trained on a Vultee when he was there.
When he returned to England in 1943 he was posted to Coastal Command where he flew Wellingtons and then Warwicks.

Try and combine your Seaplane rating with a Mustang ride and give yourself the best Christmas present you have ever had!
