Tony Christie does indeed sign the tune and appears in the video wearing the purple suit of Peter Kay. Very good singer of his type and can do it live well.
He comes from Conisbrough in South Yorkshire, his brother Neil Fitzgerald was my teacher at school in Conisbrough.

Peter Kay hads the same gift as the great Frankie Howerd. To see him is to wet yourself laughing. No dialogue required.

I've got mixed feelings about this..... When I DJ at the weekends, I have been playing Amarillo at the end of a night for at least the last twelve months.... and the place has always gone wild.

Now that it has been re-issued, and EVERYONE is playing it, it will lose it's appeal where I work!

I'll have to find some other cheesy old tune that everyone loves but would never admit it!
