I have a 2014 S212 E Class estate - E220 CDI amg line or amg sport or whatever (!), the one with the drilled front brake discs if it makes a difference.

Am I correct in thinking the car has front AND rear brake pad wear sensors, I know it does on the front?

If so, can I trust them implicitly to tell me when I should replace them?

I ask as of course my local main dealer tells me at every service that the pads are 60% or 80% worn, and has done with every Merc I've ever taken them over the last 10 years - so I certainly don't trust them.

Visually they look ok if a little low at the back, but looking at new pads that may be the design of them - the 'meat' on the rear pads appears to slope so that the thickest part is the side you can't visually see, you'll always see the thinner side, I might be wrong on this. I don't want to take things apart or replace pads before their time if the sensors can be relied upon.

TIA.

I think there is a single wear sensor on the back brakes.

I have a 15/15 e220 Saloon , Brake pad warning lamp came on, needed front pads, they had about 500 miles left in them, i replaced the disks at the same time although they could have been used again, for the cost it wasnt worth not doing it! while everything was stripped down..

Thanks chaps.

Sound like its not worth the risk of trusting the sensor - if it activates when the pads are that close to being metal, and theres only one, a slight imbalance could mean the non-sensor side is metal on metal before I find out!

And as I dont trust the local main dealer who are truly hopeless, to tell me truthfully if theyre close to being done or not, its time to get my hands dirty...
