head gasket replacement 2.9
Discussion
Schnozz,
Haynes manual states " If Torx type bolts have been used, these will need to be replaced."
If you have hex head bolts I would check the torque settings on the bolts, they should be 95 to 115 Nm or 70 to 80 lbf ft. If they are then the bolt has been stretched within it's elastic limit Techie type terminology) and will be OK to use again, if it is a much higher value then it could have been stretched too much (into it's plastic limit) and should be replaced. You can double check the torque loading by using the Torque wrench to undo the bolts making sure, firstly, that the wrench clicks off at the above top values.
It is worth getting the Haynes Sierra V6 manual if only for the sequence of the stages and values of torqueing up the bolts and that there is a difference when using Torx bolts.
Sorry it's a bit long winded but that's what insomnia does for you!
