"Ethical" products and services.
Discussion
All the talk of cows in fivers reminded me of the transparency of the Fairphone and it made me wonder who else there is out there doing things slightly differently for reasons besides pure profit and if their products and services are actually any good.
For those who don't know, the original Fairphone was an attempt at making a mobile phone with conflict free raw materials, decent working conditions and all of that liberal do-goody stuff, being totally transparent about where it came from and how it was made. They originally found that it was actually impossible to locate tin ethically, though I'm not sure if they now have with their new one.

One of the things I like about the project is their per-unit cost breakdown- IP costs more than manufacturing for the latest one!
It's also been designed with modular internals such that it can be repaired or upgraded with ease rather than thrown away as many electronics are. Sadly all of this comes at a high cost for a very average phone, but as a project I thnk it's great. The cost breakdown is here:

Presumably using products and services which focus on anything other than profit means you're always going to be accepting (at least) second best. Is there anything that is simultaneously world beating and on high moral ground?

There is only one thing I object to regarding products that are described as 'ethical'....
It creates the implication that competing products are unethical and that may or may not be the case (and a lot of the question is pure opinion).
Sorry - that was totally irrelevant
But a good point, none the less.It creates the implication that competing products are unethical and that may or may not be the case (and a lot of the question is pure opinion).
