Forgot to inform DVLA of change of address (18 months ago)
so my road tax reminder would have gone to my old address. Its the 18th today so if an £80 fine has been raised , it will go to the wrong address also. My dilemma is , do and sit tight and see what happens ( or does the fine automatically rise ) or do I ask them if I have been fined ( and thereby reminding them that if they haven't yet , then feel free to do so ) ?

How did you get the car to your new address?
Bike actually , tax ran out end of this Feb. I got last years reminder because at that stage I was still having my post redirected . It is now retaxed and there is no break between expiry of old disc and start of new .
My point is , if an £80 fine has been sent (because 14 days have elapsed) , how would I know ?
If address not changed when you retaxed don't forget the old V5 will no longer be valid from July 2005. DVLA will have sent your new V5C to your old address.
Arse in gear and sort it out pronto methinks. How about a visit / call to your old address to see if they have any mail for you. That might sway things as to how to deal.
My V5C came through about 2 weeks after retaxing.

If they have fined you for it, you will find out when they send you the new V5 to the current address. Because no doubt the fine(s) will follow.
I surely wouldn't get fined re:V5 if I changed address on it without getting caught would I ? They don't actually know when I moved after all.
As regards the fines coming with the new V5 , that is what I'm trying to ascertain , if a fine was sent to my old address , would they send out another to my new address ?
I mean the unpaid fines for the tax should be sent to the new address.
This would include everything they have sent you in the last 18 months unless you say.. sorry i moved 18months ago and did not recieve them then you wont get fined re the V5.
So could be looking at original fine + anything else they fined you for non payment, this would also include summons they sent if they sent you them.

Tax ran out end of Feb 2005. All I'm worried about is the automated £80 fine that gets sent out 14 days after either a) not retaxing or b) not declaring of road
MC
So the Licence expired end of February 2005.
DVLC Computor 80 pound fine sweep for February expiries takes place a month afterwards, i.e. April 2005. If it then detects no Licence issued in March 2005 then fine sent out then.
Stated further Licence taken out during March 2005. Computor sweep would not disclose any break in continuity so no notice sent out.
I am of the opinion there is no need to sweat, BUT
GET THE CHANGE OF ADDRESS SORTED NOW.

Ah thanks. Like I say V5 was handed to PO this AM with change of address details filled in and signed by myself. Sweat over I think/hope.
