just got a slightly suspicious email, talking about an invoice, ostensibly from a company I have made a credit card purchase from, with the sum matching my last purchase from them

it has an attached pdf which I haven't opened, and a contact number for the accounts dept which doesn't match the Glasgow area code of the actual company, it gives an 0212 number - what is this, a dodgy number or what? I can't find anything with a quick google

I would call the company directly and speak to someone, to me it sounds dodgy, if it isnt genuine they need to know so they can warn their customers, I doubt very much you are the only person that the fraudsters have attempted phishing on.

I emailed them back on the real email address, but it seemed to come from a real noreply@ their email address

If it's definitely a PDF (if it's an attachment to an email, that should be fairly easy to establish?) you should be okay to open it. Just definitely not anything that's not .pdf.

Was this the e-mail?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west...

BBC said:
Thousands of football fans were sent a scam email asking them to pay a bill after a Scottish Football Association database was apparently hacked.

An invoice for £170 was sent to subscribers to the Scotland Supporters Club mailing list just after 09:00.

The email - addressed "Dear Customer" - provided a link for payment, which was a disguised website address.
