Radio 1 pronounciations...
Discussion
Right, I am a bit of an old fart as I am heading towards my mid 40s, and when I listen to the wireless my Radio 1 days are long gone...usually Radio 2, 4, 5, or Radio X these days.
However, as a bit of an ex-raver I still love my dance music, and R1 is still pretty good for that. When tinkering in the garage, R1 is all my old-school FM stereo will pick up there, and I do enjoy swinging a spanner or an evening to Annie Mac or Pete Tong.
But why oh why does it seem to be a pre-requisite these days for any R1 DJ to have to say the words "night", "like", "might", "tonight" (you get the idea now) like this guy?

It is SOOOOO f
king annoying...in fact the only more annoying thing to ever come over the airwaves courtesy of the BBC is Chris Evans! Why the f
k does the normally nicely spoken Alice Levine talk like Liz Hurley for the first part of a sentence then suddenly go all Westwood when any word has "i" syllable in it?
First world problem I know, just really bloody annoying though...is it just me?

Complaining about Radio 1 be it the presenters or the music is the first sign that you are no longer one of the 'young ones' and that you have begun to grow up.
These days i find it more relaxing to shout at Radio 4 than to listen to Radio 1.
Actually it is worse as i am now about to push on on some work to make sure i can get out of here in time to hear the Archers on the way home....

I don't listen to the Archers (honest!) but I've noticed that the presenter will say something like "And David is having trouble with his cows". Then just before it starts they'll say "And Linda has lost her passport". So there's 2 plotlines and they've just given them both away before it starts, what's the point of bloody listening now?Ignoring the deliberate mistake in the thread title, I think the OP is referring to the bloody awful MLE accents that are becoming increasingly popular throughout the BBC.
The phrase 'knife crime' becomes - and it's difficult to write this - 'knaafe craame'.
That what you mean OP, or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

kING ANNOYING!!!! What is MLE by the way, I'm just not down with the kids any more...Oh, and I'm now going to find my hair shirt ready for tomorrow in penance for my thread typo, and no I'm not being sarcastic as I usually cringe at such mis-spellings! Please give me the address where I need to send my own Grammar Nazi Party membership card to...I am no longer worthy :-(

Shame...you missed a good show on Radio 6 Sunday night. I'd recommend looking it up on the iPlayer [...]

Kiss on DAB. Good tunes without the sort of Radio 1 dumbing down Ben Elton mocked in the Young Ones years ago.
Still preferred Kiss back when it was a pirate station. But it's not too bad.But where the hell did they get their news reader (Rebecca Squash?) from? She is dreadful.

Tom Robinson & Danny Rampling?

If so, then yes it was great. As was Jarvis just before.
The only time I can bear to listen to R1 these days is for Pete Tong and the Essential Mix (as long as it's not all drum 'n bass or that stuff with klaxons going off every few seconds). Otherwise I'm with 6Music 24/7. Maybe apart from when Stuart Maconie is on. He's a bit annoying.
