MPG in a 500?

Until recently I was too nervous even to have a stab at guessing what MPG I get from the Griff. However, for a laugh I recently calculated it.

I am getting no more than 16 miles per gallon out of the Griff. Now I knew it was thirsty, but that really was a shock.

I would add that I'm far from a slow driver, and I do like to give it some right foot, but 16 mpg - is that normal?

I routinely got around 22mpg. Drove it fairly quickly though.

It doesn't sound too far out to me. Based on short(ish) journeys with some town & B road driving.

I get 18 mpg on average.

All sorts of roads, including a bit of pottering around town (which the car hates).

I do about a 40 mile a day commute (20 each way) and average about 20mpg.

For best fuel consumption sit at 65mph on a M'way, then you would see in excess of 30mpg.

5 mpg on the track, 19-23 mpg everywhere else.

That doesn't sound too bad. On the 2.9 V6 I get 29-30mpg on a 65 mph run and around low-mid 20's in town. So on a car with 2 ltrs more and if youdon't hang around it seems ok, maybe a little low by a couple of mpg. Have your tried working it out on a run?

I've never really worked out the fuel consumption of mine. I try to refill the tank when it gets to around a quarter-full and I get about 125 miles out of that if I'm lucky.

One thing I have noticed is the fuel consumption is getting steadily worse of late. I've had my eye on it for a while and it's definitely getting worse so would anyone have any ideas as to why that might be? I used to be able to get around 140-150 miles out of the same amount of petrol and haven't changed my driving style at all. Strange.

I do a 22 mile each way commute, mainly on A roads and use a gallon each way. If I go into town (Edinburgh) or if there is an accident on the City Bypass this falls significantly. On a long run I reckon up to 28 is do-able.

For comparison, my esses used to do 28 on the same commute. The family 320D does 50.

Know what you mean, my 330D does 44 to a gallon regardless of how I drive and the Griff does one third of that. From the sublime to the ridiculous!

actually calculated on my world tour of Scotland 1500 miles it returned 25 mpg

Right, MPG. I've been out all day with Alex, doing a full days Ride/Drive, including an hour hooning round the cones at the airfield. 272 miles, 51 litres. that's just over 24mpg. The rest of the day was on A and B roads, observing 30, 40 and 50 limits (obviously), but I did get a "watch your speed" warning from Alex in an NSL (80 when I checked the speedo). So we weren't hanging about. I also did a few 0-very quick blasts for a lad at the airfield while Alex set the cones up. Well all the lad could say when he got out was "that was quick".

If you're only getting 16 to the gallon, I suggest you get the engine looked at.

I'm getting 18, but I didn't buy a Griff expecting it to be economical. Too tempting to press the right foot down all the time.

if its a toy you shouldn't be calculating that kind off stuff, otherwise you might upset yourself

I calculate it as smiles to the gallon and thats a hell of a lot more than anything else i have owned/driven

i have never calculated the real MPG because i am not bothered.

i have just made a 204 mile round trip from sussex to essex and averaged 27.4 MPG (my speed stayed mostly around 85 indicated on motorways) I have only owned the 94 griff for a week and am amazed that it returns better milage than my 2002 T5 Volvo V70!!!!

When we first got the Griff we did calculate the MPG over about 10 tankfuls - 12.2mpg
Mind you Mrs FFG did most of that!!!!

I get about 16-18 in general (crap commuting traffic). Similar or slightly better when hooning, and have had up to about 24 when taking it easy on motorways etc.
