Got a pretty simple AV setup - BT Youview Box into a Denon AV amp into Samsung TV. Having issues with the TV screen blacking out intermittently, for maybe 1/3rd, 1/2 a second. Seems to be totally at random, and has only started since the amp was installed. Audio (running through separate speakers) is uninterrupted.

Is there anything obvious I should check or is my box dodgy?

HDMI?

Try a new cable - they're not all equal. £5 would be fine for a high speed basics from amazon.

Still no joy?

Run a separate cable direct to TV then audio to AV amp via toslink or coax.

Or simply try a different HDMI input on the AV amp - HDMI boards can and do fail with intermittent faults.

My Samsung TV does this as well, and it's even worse when upscaling is enabled in my A/V receiver (Pioneer).

Going by the (TV) on screen display, the TV is struggling to make sense of the HDMI resolution coming from the amp (I can see different resolutions being reported at the top left corner by the Samsung TV firmware).

I have tried many different cables and nothing seems to resolve this.

Plugging either my Sky HD or Humax FreeSat boxes directly into the TV resolves the issue.

I have also tried different video modes in the Sky / Humax boxes (including auto) and this makes no difference.

I suspect it is some oddity with the Samsung TV HDMI interface.

The other thing that can cause intermittent blackouts is HDMI control (CEC). One of the units may be trying to tell the others it is on, and they all have a ponder what to do about it. You can certainly turn it off on most amps, probably the TV and maybe the Youview box.

I plug the HDMI from my YouView box directly into the TV and run a Toslink from the TV to the amp. I also have an Apple TV and a Mac Mini plugged into the TV's HDMI ports. I select the appropriate input on the TV, the amp remains on Digital in (opt) at all times rather than running HDMI from YouView box to the amp and HDMI to the TV.
