Why are these so expensive? £1K plus for a 2 day course when Prince2 can be £800 for 4 1/2 days.

Because the end result will be you can deliver something, rather than deliver a report explaining why you didn't deliver anything?

If there's a few of you that need the course, it's often cheaper to get someone to come in and do the course onsite.

Thanks, I used Knowledge Academy for Prince2 for just that reason.

Read a book. Talk to some people who already do Scrum. It's simple stuff. Absolutely mad to fork out a grand to listen to a pseudo-charismatic "trainer" trying to make the subject seem complicated enough to justify their own existence, followed by a supervised lego session.

I've talked to lots of people and read a few books, but unfortunately recruiters and HR departments like to see a piece of paper.

I've known people ask for various superfluous qualifications (usually this or Java ones from Sun>Oracle), but never not been offered an interview as a result of not having one, or the job subsequently.

I'd have assumed they were expensive because they price them for businesses with training budgets that have to be spent on something or lost.

I think with Scrum it is far more important to have done it and to have bought into the Agile mindset. Sending a time-served PRINCE2 manager, working for a waterfall organisation, on a Scrumaster course and expecting "magic" is likely to end in tears.
