Plus all the money the USA have been paying him for renting a little small holding on Guatanamo Bay. As far as I know they still pay and he doesn't accept but it goes somewhere, at least that's the official story

It's funny how communism seems always to end up with only different people getting rich off the labour of the proletariat isn't it-rather than the 'ideal' society they are supposed to be moving towards.

Somebody once said of Russia, that there have been basically two models:

Czars, peasants and inequality

Commissars, proletariat and inequality

It's very hard to breed out the inborn instinct in man to improve his lot through money, prestige or power (or all three).

Which is one of the reasons Communism is always doomed to failure-it conflicts with Human nature

You guys are 100% spot on! Human nature precludes any success with Communism. At the risk of being misunderstood, I will say that the writings of Karl Marx, if taken literally could be a pleasant way of life. Of course it relies on true dedication by EVERYONE to its ideals to succeed, which it will never have. It might work with a race of robots, but not humans.

Mate of mine got back from Cuba yesterday.

He says its an amazing place.

Now I'm not sure about the politics but he did pick me up a box of 25 Cohiba Esplendido's (Castros personal favourite) for a very reasonable price.

Its alright this communism lark I reckon...

It is an amazing place if you are carrying a load of Dollars and a plane ticket home in your pocket! You partake of the "good things" for tourists and leave the toil to the folks that don't find it amazing. Like Belize, I am frequently there on business. I have a great time; however, my roll of paper with HRH QE II's picture on it is considerably larger than the local's. What I remember most about Cuba is that all the makeshift boats seem to sail to Miami; I am still waiting for one to sail back.
