OMD EM5 user here who has thoroughly enjoyed the last 3 years with a 20mm fixed throughout.

I've become interested in capturing film (mainly of my twin toddlers) and my OMD doesn't seem up to it. Quality is great but the focus is inconsistent, this may be down to my skills but from what I have read the OMD is not brilliant for shooting film.

I'd like to add a camera for the purposes of filming. The go-to option seems to be a GoPro but I have read the RX100 3 or 4 is worth considering. The portability (size) of both appeals. What options am I missing?

I have considered replacing the OMD for a system which offers good image capture and film.

Your thoughts are welcome as are you tips for getting better results from my OMD.

I think the problem may be with the lens rather than the camera- if it's the Panasonic 20mm MK 1 it's is not great at quick focusing. I have a EM10 and video seems ok to me- using a Panasonic 12-32 zoom and Tamron 14-150.
Might be worth trying another lens?

I would consider one of the Panasonic models with 4K photo option, this enables a good quality (suitable for printing up to A4) frame to be extracted from a 4K video. The touchscreen focus is also a nice to have. Not as pocketable as the Sony RX100 series though.

Great, thank you. I shall have a look at those options. Appreciated.

A lens might improve things but a fast moving toddler is a tricky challenge for any m4/3 camera. I had an EM5ii with a couple of the pro 2.8 lenses and they struggled in most situations with toddlers. It was okay in high contrast situations such as a beach where the camera could easily identify said ballistic children against the plain background but indoors was tricky at best. I hear the Panasonic GH4 is excellent for this sort of stuff (and video in general) but a lot of money.
