So despite the weather and slipping clutch, I thought I would go out and try to get a better video before it comes off the road again for the lightened flywheel and McLeod twin plate smile

The microphone was in the engine bay so the turbo sounds are not as intrusive as it makes out hehe

Unfortunately YouTube has ruined the sound and video quality but you get the idea!

ETA in the second clip you can see the back end come loose in 4th gear despite me being gentle! yikes

So what turbo kit/set-up have you got Lewis or was it self build, what modifications are on the car. Have you had it on a rolling road to see what bhp and torque you are getting, also how much boost are you using.
That grin on your face says it all thumbup

All self built with a HX35 running around 9psi at the moment.

When all is done I will get around to writing a full spec list, but main things are MS2 fuel and ignition, big intercooler and Astra VXR 450cc injectors. Not had it on the rolling road yet but will be on the list when the new clutch is sorted biggrin

Engine is currently standard with 117,000 miles on it!

Suspension is fully polybushed with Gaz Gold Pros, front brakes are 283mm Cosworth and wheels are Japan Racing JR3 with Federal RSR tyres. Loads of other bits and bobs but too much to list!

Another home brew; excellent stuff! Any pics of the install Lewis?

Quite a lot of flutter going on? Certainly more than mine

It's running without a dump valve hence the flutter. I have a build thread on retrorides but will get an up to date engine bay photo tomorrow for you!

Now you are a fully fledged member of the dark side, and mental enough to be giving it large in the wet eek, can I recommend some Rainsport 3s? idea

Where did you get the turbo from and do you have you got any more specs..?

I have got a gt35 clone and it does not spool up anywhere near like yours..!

Unfortunately the company I bought it from has gone under but it's a British built Holset HX35 clone with a 12cm twin scroll turbine housing.

Here's a link to the build thread, as you can see its not a small turbo and I had quite a job getting it all to fit!

Holset HX35 genuine are available via Holset's distributors.

Lewis must be running 2 cylinders down as Holset say this turbo is for 6 cylinder engines from 5 to 6.5 litre eek
Holset HX35 Turbochargers

"Designed primarily for 6 cylinder engines of 5.0 to 6.5 liter capacity, the Holset HX35 turbocharger has high flow aerodynamics capable of providing up to 0.46 kg/s at 3.0:1 pressure ration."

http://www.myholsetturbo.com/holsethx35.html

Searching the net, most seem in agreement that the Holset should spool up faster than the GT?

Its a lot quieter in real life, I just had the microphone next to the air filter otherwise it would all just be wind noise hehe

That being said my plan wasn't to make the installation subtle smokin

Are standard 4 l engines well suited for forced induction ?

Enjoyed reading through the build thread on the other forum; looks like we've covered very similar ground yes

You still on the original fuel pump at 8psi? Would imagine it's probably starting to lean out on longer pulls if so...

Yep original pump still, I will bear that in mind!

What pump are you using?

Yes. It's earlier generation of engines, 3.5/3.9 that are a bit iffy. They have slotted pistons that may crack if the engine detonates. 4.0/4.6 are an excellent choice if you keep the boost sensible and map it well.
