Fields of Glory,& other PC wargames
Discussion
Does any one have any suggestions for a PC based wargame to play?
Many moons ago I used to play table top wargames, must have spent a fortune on little lead soldiers, and now have a hankering for my old hobby, just not the space to store them(or the money to buy them, the prices are mad now)
So I downloaded Fields of Glory, which recreates pretty well an ancients/medieval wargame, anything from Marathon to Mohacs.Hundreds of different armies,so lots of oppertunity to tinker with army lists. The main game has 2 armies & lots of battles, add on packs add various periods of history. Currently half price too,so I got the whole lot for the price of a AAA game.
AI is pretty good, has beaten me a few times, but I have won Tueterburger(sp?) WAld as Rome, and lost Agincourt as Henry V. Hannibal has also beaten the English from the Hundred Years War...history can be optional. The PBEM system is good too. So just wondered if there were any other players of this, or its later period cousin "Pike & Shot Campaigns"
Or does anyone have recommendations for a good wargame? There are loads for WW2, an earlier period would be something different

There is this :

I tried the beta and it was enjoyable enough. Not sure what a true grognard would think though.
Pre-children ( i.e. when I had time ) I used to dip in here for inspiration : http://simhq.com/forum/

I have a couple of table-top style games, but more modern than the ones you've mentioned OP. For WW2 action I play Panzer Corps ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/268400/ ), which is a modern remake of the Panzer General games. Its classic turn based, move your pieces across the map gameplay. For the modern era I play Command: Modern Air / Naval Combat ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/321410/ ), which is much more a strategic battle simulator rather than a table top style game.

Actually - that just jogged my memory. I bought this recently :http://store.steampowered.com/app/330720/
Flashpoint Campaigns : Red Storm
Old style hex based wargame, quite enjoyable and the era appeals to me ( "what if" sim of a scenario of the 80's cold war going hot ).
Not invested as much time into it as I'd like though.

Actually just got the ACW one, after playing their Gettysburg game, not yet played it.
I like the look of the WW3 one but the Modern naval combat was just sooo insanely detailed,I did get it,could not get on with it & asked for a refund.
Always worth poking around in here too : http://www.matrixgames.com/products/I like the look of the WW3 one but the Modern naval combat was just sooo insanely detailed,I did get it,could not get on with it & asked for a refund.
Flashpoint Campaigns has interested me before, in fact its been on my Steam wishlist a while now but I've never got round to buying it. Command is a tough game to get into, it took me watching a series of videos on YouTube to figure out how to play it, but its quite fun once you get past the learning curve. I'd have loved games like that several years ago when I had the patience to sit down and really get into a game, these days if it doesn't grab me within the first ten minutes then I get bored and move onto something else.
