Can happen, but most folk know the score before they hand the keys to Tiff. If it's for a TV prog then their insurers come into play.

Thats OK if it blows up whilst they're driving, but what happens if the problem develops several days afterwards.

In a previous job we used to hire Tiff to provide passenger rides at various trade shows and the like.

He was nothing short of an absolute gentleman and always treated the cars within the parameters that were laid down to him.

I think its a bit mick to suggest he's some sort of hooligan to be honest.

Agree with Gemini, nworth checking first, but the post-hoon problem development issue appears to be handled appropriately. Tiff is an absolutely first rate bloke and wouldn't buzz or bend somebody else's car knowingly or deliberately, for sure.

For the benefit of those who did not go, did they do 200mph or as the title suggests the car was not well?

Car wasn't there.

But the Fifth Gear team were, and witnessed several runs of very nearly 200mph.

The 5th gear Lotus didn't turn up as it had lunched it's gearbox.

3rd One apparently.

Tiff's conclusion was the Lotus would need a better gearbox, more power and a longer runway.

Is it mechanically / theoretically possible for a standard Lotus V8 gearbox to do a 200mph run...assuming you had endless power? Surely the legs would run out at pretty much the same speed as the non tuned version (maybe another 8-10mph) due to the gear ratios?

It has been done in the USA (204mph I think), but it costs serious money (more than they are spending).

You can recondition the 5th gear to be much stronger, details in the Lotus forum. Imo they are using the wrong car for cheap speed.

204mph in a Lotus...wow, must have made some radical aerodynamic adjustments as well!

I agree that they have picked the wrong car...IMO the only cars worth attempting this in would be Rice burners like a last gen Mazda RX-7. You can buy a mint low milage one for under 10k....and with over 10K's worth of mods (the lotus is at 26K now) you could have a 600+ hp 220 mph+ car.

Oh well....
