Last night, I made a very flawed attempt to get my gearknob's head to unscrew and I failed miserably.

I have a shiny new one because of my knob being damaged by years of ring abuse, and I just can't get it off anymore rolleyes. Am I missing something in not being able to get it off?

I've tried using a couple of huge tools to hold it, and the collar, but I'm no closer to understanding how it's screwed... getmecoat

Any help would be appreciated.

I did one on the t350 which I think is very similar to my Cerb, I gripped the gearknob and twisted it anti clockwise and eventually it loosened. I read somewhere that some are fitted with some lock tight, glue or something to prevent twisting in use, but this one had nothing on it or the thread. The locking ring literally just tightens up against the knob. Maybe try getting a good grip on it with a rubber glove on. OOoo errr missus!!

Tight Knob ? yikes I dream cloud9

A previous owner had the genius idea of putting a leather-covered one (missed the opportunity to say 'Knob' there) which, when I first owned the car, I really appreciated.

After 60K miles of heating up and cooling down though the black fix-it-all sticky stuff, by which it was attached, has been worked away and the item ( Missed it again) rattles anywhere over 2000 rpm. banghead

I once had the opposite if this, where I couldn't keep it fixed in its orientation. I think the trick is too pull down your gaiters so you will see the big collar and twist in the opposite direction of the knob (both at the same time) hopefully this should release?

Don't pull down on the gaiter too frequently or you knob might become even stiffer and emit a gooey residue.

True... mines been replace in alcantara so don't have that goo issue. If it's not stuck to the gear stick cutout then lift up from there wink

Or even try some grips on your shaft then grip your knob end harder before screwing it off may also work 😳

The knob has a thread on it, never seen them locktite before, but the colar underneath also has a thread and acts as a loc nut. Hold the knob still and undo the lo first, the gearknob will just twist off really esily after this.

As Tofts said, that's how I loosened my knob. A firm grip and some support from the wife also helps !!!

Be gentle with the leather gater at the rind round the top. Over rubbing here could lead to chafing which is unpleasant. May be there is a grub screw holding it in place. Slide you finger round the back and broddle about for a bit to see if that releases anything??
