AV Receiver - separate source for video/sound?
Discussion
Hi, I've had a quick look but can't find an answer to this, apologies if asked before ..
I have a Yamaha RX -V575 bought a couple of years ago, been using it mainly for TV and movies etc with a bit of PS4. I've got the Sky Q box and PS4 plugged into the AVR with one cable connecting to the TV
Is it possible to play sound from one source (i.e. the Sky box/iPhone/Airplay) while having video from another?
The primary reason is to be able to play my own music while gaming, ideally it would be directly via Airplay but not quite sure how to go about it
Thanks in advance

Highly unlikely your receiver will support the playing of audio from one HDMI input and video from another.
It may allow you to mix and match an analog audio input with a video source - you'll have to check the manual.
Simplest solution might be to connect the PS4 direct to the TV and play separate audio via the receiver.

Separate video and audio pathways. Run an HDMI cable from thePS4 to tv, connect an optical audio lead from PS4 to the amp. To watch content from the Sky Q box select HDMI 1 on the amp, HDMI 1 on the tv. To use the PS4 select HDMI 2 on the tv and and AV1 on the amp. To use the PS4 with an alternative sound source select HDMI 2 on the tv and whichever audio source you like, e.g. Tuner or Airplay or USB etc.
You should be able to use the "Scenes" function of the Yamaha amp.
You can configure (almost) unlimited combinations of video source, and audio source etc.

How do I go about playing my own music from the PS4 while gaming?
I'd rather not have it permanently wired to the TV, as the wires have been hidden.
The main reason is so I can play my own music while playing online, rather than listen to idiots talking!
It's easiest if you use Spotify, press and hold the ps button and you get a slide out menu that includes music options. How do I go about playing my own music from the PS4 while gaming?

I've also used music stored on a server using the media application, but I seem to remember I needed to start the app manually first before the game, I've not tried this since subscribing to Spotify.
I think you can also store music on the PS4 itself but haven't tried this.
