Went with 'rex' to Oxford Speedway last night.

We took our 20Ds.

Even with the floodlighting we were forced to 3200 ISO, with some interesting results.

All shot in RAW, processed/cropped in DPP with sharpening +1, NO NOISE REDUCTION.

I somehow think the graininess (sp?) adds to some of these in a way, am now tempted to try a couple in B&W.

Full gallery here: www.pbase.com/baguleys/speedway

I am sure rex will post his fairly soon...

Comments?

It almost looks like drizzle/mist. In action shots like those I really don't think a small amount of noise takes anything away from the image at all.

I've found that the noise levels on images taken on my 20d @iso 3200 look very similar to the grain i used to see on fast films.

Really uniform and in B+W it can enhance the image.

nice images too

Number 4 is stunning......beef up the contrast and shadows a little in Raw adjustment....to give it the final bit of punch.

Thanks, I'll try that.

In true forum style, I did a quick bit of Spot Colour...

That is cool - I usually use Noiseware, and probably will if I ever use any of these seriously.

I need to seriously edit most of these for effect, but I was quite enjoying the raw grain effect...

I was more impressed with how little noise there was at this ISO setting, I'd like the see the 'D70 clud' have a go

Wow some great images, speedway does make for a great sport to photograph. The lack of noise for ISO 3200 on the 20D is quite impressive.
