Apologies if this news of a definite step forward for AM isn't the most exciting thread on here today, but there was no obligation to read it or click the link contained in my OP.
Every new topic is of interest.
Please don't be annoyed by my comments.
The publication seemed to write their article, in a way that made out finding the land had only just happened.
A little more detail now.

Aston Martin will lease the property from Legal and General.

Aston Martin have found a plot in St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan to construct the DBX factory. They're expected to employ 750 workers with more jobs being generated in the supply chain. Production set to begin in 2020.

I thought they were takeing over a plant that used to build planes? Amazing they can do this for less money than Ford would spend on developing just one new engine. Link
Superb they kept the project in the UK, and its best bit too
750 jobs sounds like quite a lot! May be a sweetener for government support (have you heard the figures bandied for Circuit of Wales project - 6000 jobs
).
I'm taking a bit more SUV interest now as I have had a pootle in a Porsche Macan GTS and been very impressed with its dynamics - would be fab as a DD workhorse; mpg a bit low for business mind. But would I want to put wet kt and a smelly dog in an Aston SUV and pay twice as much. NO! The Porsche is a lot more than a perfectly fine 535D Touring as-is.
Sorry if i'm rambling as I do wish them all the success in the world but I cant think of any people I know this project would appeal to. Well other than my one Emir mate! Or am I wrong to think it will be far more than Macan/X5 money?

Haven't the Rolls Royce SUV and Bentley SUV been with ell received with many orders?

I imagine that there will be LOTs of interest in the AM SUV, it's a high quality brand and that type of vehicle does well. Personally I think they should have done it years ago.

I hope they make it prettier than this all bells and whistles 'Bent Tiger' Q7 - and indeed Bentley they do say they have sold out first year's production of c 3000.

Maybe its a Chelsea thing
Meeeow!
That is butt ugly and they don't look any better in the flesh. Just hope the interior makes up for it

I like these SUV things, because it is well very, Hey look at me.
There is a problem though, because now there are far too many around.
I really want something twice the size, a kind of SUVX2.
Then all those people in the everyday common SUVs will look at me.

You really do??Isn't the interest mainly being aimed at attracting "Charlotte" types by factory? Which doesn't that inevitably mean the car might not go, brake, handle or go off road as well as competition?? Meaning males might steer clear of the car?? Limiting interest??
Drop the Charlotte approach (which I reckon is a too small demographic to sustain production), make it a tyre shredding power monster which is so grand that when inching down a narrow street the wing mirrors pass over the top of the Range Rover's wing mirrors coming the other way - make it a bit more 'Craig' than 'Charlotte' - it might then have sufficient interest?
Because it needs more than LOTS of interest, the business model is reportedly 7000 units per annum - that's insane interest per annum, every annum
From what we observe in the commuter towns of Kent and Surrey, it certainly seems to have become a tremendous boom market, with a multitude of different manufacturers from I think, just the one long-standing original player (Range Rover). Also noticeable in those towns, are the majority of female drivers in these huge vehicles.
Those are just my local observations, but presumably AML are going to aim their model at specific overseas markets, to achieve the sales targets.
It is not the type of vehicle that appeals to me at all, but will the AML SUV plan work?
I hope so, because if not the alternative is - well you know.

PS If you're assuming all women drivers won't want to drive a big car, you've not met my wife (she's the one that chose a Land Rover Disco with the gangsta black pack!)

the alternative....
..... Is concentrate on making banging sports cars and associated spin off specials, and at a time of intense development with relative small staffing levels, don't dilute / risk sports cars (the business) with a punt on a market share which is not fully known (RapideII)The SUB boat was missed more than 5 years ago by Bez
I can see a market for a car between DB11 and Mulsanne (Lagonda) even abroad, I don't see an Aston SUV market space at 7000 per annum, every annum.
What's the end result of the SUV market going wrong??

I've written it so often in other threads that I'm not going to go through all the numbers again. Just suffice to say the target market for SUVs is China and the US. Sales in the UK are simply a bonus. If the car is a hit with the Chinese, 7,000 sales is easy, indeed AML might need to find a bigger plant.

te Sherlock that SUV sales are intended mostly outside U.K.We are talking about a brand which is struggling to get its sports cars known to more men across foreign shores, meaning 7k SUV's mostly aimed at women is a doubly huge effort!!
Imho most Women don't feel comfortable wearing wealth brashly on sleeve, they don't want to stand out from crowd in a too expensive car. Imho most women will spend wealth on objects other than a car. In the SUV segment for women the Rangie and Porsche is the normal 'discreet' option, is the Bentley or DBX too much wealth on sleeve?.
For sure there are exceptions, and great or else the world would be boring. But exceptions won't consume 7k cars per annum, every annum.
Of course, what might happen come 2020 is that DB11 should be going OK, new Vantage has full order book and so does DBX - then the company will be floated, at least the current order book looks good even if that initial novelty take up isn't sustainable in numbers needed.

2. What is also "no S**t" sherlock is that the buyers of these cars in China are not women. But I'll also point that out to you too for free
