Sorry if this has already been on here but I'd like to know if anyone else out there has an experience like mine.

Bought a brand new GLC in Feb this year from Mercedes Bristol. Best part of 50k. Mileage now 8k

Now it's started skipping when turning at low speed. I took it in to have it looked at because this is obviously not right, they didn't even look at it! Yesterday I got told they would log a complaint and wait to see what Merc said about it. The sales manager yesterday said he recognised this as a fault. Today the official line is that this a " unwanted characteristic " of the car and there is nothing wrong with it.

Does anyone have anything that may be helpful or anyf advice of what I should do now.

Regards
Rik

First of all perhaps better describe what you are actually experiencing; and what exact model of GLC do you have and with what wheels and tyres are on it?

Hi
It's a 250d Amg with 20" wheels and Pirelli tyres.
Skipping is the term used by Mercedes to describe a juddering or slipping when turning on full or strong lock at very slow speed. If you've got one and it does it you'll know exactly what I mean. If not, Its very difficult to describe!!!
Thanks

Fairly common if the front tyre tread depth is low and the turning surface is low grip (such as shiner car parks).....or geo is miles out!

Hi Jim, thanks.
Tyres are really good, cars only done 8k. Mercedes won't check the geo as they say it's not a fault.
It just feels very different from when it was new 8 months ago

It's only due to the colder weather allowing the tyres to slip. Usually when reversing on full lock. It's normal for this model, and there's a long thread about it on the MBClub forum.

Ackerman effect just seems more pronounced on this car than others. I experience it on my E63 and the Smart too, I often reverse out my drive on full lock.

hi,

Had it on 12 CLS63 AMG, and 13 SLK55 AMG. Observed when cold (or slippy) reversing at 2 or 3mph then turning full lock. Not a big deal, unless the drive was icy when the slip was a bit hairy, and swing the nose out to my drive wall.

I thought it was just an issue caused by the wide tyres and suspension set-up at full lock tends to be perched on the edges of the tyre

Ok I've never heard the term, nor from Mercedes when I discussed this regarding my GLC43 with 21" wheels. It maybe something different but to me it feels like 'crabbing', its only on full lock, an d it is like there is too much friction and the car wants to go ahead. It feels similar to me to old skool gearbox lockup in mechanical 4x4's.

Never had this on my GL class with 21" wheels. I still haven't had the time to take it in in person.

This is the reason that MB Dealers give to GLC owners who have asked for an investigation.

My Porsche gts did it on 20" rims so it's more common than just Merc and my SL63 does it as did the Aston before it. Not a desirable characteristic and def not something that manufactures should design into their vehicles, but it's a fact of some modern cars.

What's the camber setting up front? My car does this as a result of running more than spec negative camber on the front axle. It only really does it on hard lock going up slopes (car park ramps)

I'm not sure what the camber is?
My Aston doesn't do it nor does my 911. I am pleased you all seem to think it's not a problem.

How old are you Simon? You really feel the need and the pleasure to bring your one liners in every thread about the GLC?

And no my GL class doesn't do it either. I've seen more reports regarding the GLC43 but all were on 21" wheels, this is the first time I've heard about it on 20" wheels.

I still need to go in to Mercedes AMG master technician for a check, but they do think that for my GLC43 AMG on 21" it is indeed due to the negative camber setup that they've done on the vehicle. And yes for me it is indeed only on extreme full lock, the rest of the time it isn't noticeable at all. Hence I haven't rushes back as it is rare I have such lock on the steering.
