Stuck in traffic in Brighton last night and all of a sudden temp shot up and engine warning high temp. Checked to make sure have enough water which was ok could this be a faulty cap do you think? Still happening when i drive it now!Any advice please

Where did you check the water? You need to check it in the radiator. Almost certainly will be low.
