Hello guys. I'll keep it brief. Wishing to get my first "proper" camera, no previous photography experience so need ease of use to start with I suppose, don't mind buying second hand, budget £300 max ideally. Will be taking pictures of landscape mainly such as up Snowden etc.

Also if possible would prefer Cannon over Nikon.

TIA.

By 'proper' I assume you mean a DSLR. Whilst not the cheapest source, you'll avoid the perils of Ebay/Gumtree/etc if you buy from a shop. Here's a couple of recommendations based on previous ownership:

I wouldn't suggest you buy that example of the lens as it looks fairly damaged - there's an example here for £180:

but I've not used that shop before, so can't vouch for it.

I've had both of those items in the past and they served me well.

If your main subject is landscapes, you'll want a tripod at some point sooner rather than later, then you may want to consider filters. I'd recommend signing up and contributing to the Talk Photography forum, primarily as it's a very decent source for advice and feedback, but also because there's a really good classifieds section, though you must contribute regularly to access it.

Previous poster has pretty much covered it.

Even an older Canon DSLR would be fine for landscapes work, the lS version of the kit lens should be fine too.

Thanks for the replies. That lens you've recommended, is that purely for landscape or can I take pictures of cars etc with it?

yes

Good choice. Cannons are much better for shooting.

A lens can take any kind of pictures.
Typically landscapes are shot wide (10-20mm on crop), static cars likewise or a bit longer ( 15-30mm), people/portraits at 50mm etc.

17-50 is a very good do everything (outside of sports/birds) lens.

So you're going to be shooting your cannon up Snowden eh?

Back on the plot, if you want decent photos quickly in decent conditions and don't want to learn too much about photography, get a good compact. No point getting a DSLR which is all about control and expansion/progression.
