Norwich Union seem to be very anxious about the standard of vehicle security on the Monaro.

They claim they cannot obtain a classification for the vehicle security and have therefore given me 30 days to get a Thatcham Cat1 alarm/imobiliser fitted.

Was a bit surprised about this until I called Vauxhall customer service and they didn't know either! They refered me to Thatcham but unfortunatly their phone seems to be in the same office as Carlsberg customer complaints.

Anybody know more about the Monaro than Vauxhall (or should that have been Everybody)?

The Monaro alarm isn't thatcham approved, but that is not to say it isn't up to thatcham standards. Because of the low number of Monaro imports, Vauxhall couldn't justify (or afford) to put it through the approval process. Thats what my dealer told me.

Various ways around the problem.

Find an insurance co that does not require a 'thatcham approved' alarm. Admiral. They just required that the vehicle has an alarm and immobiliser. I had tracker fitted anyway, and they were happy with that.

Have a another 'Thatcham approved' alarm system fitted in addition to the factory system. Bit of a waste of money/bodge if you ask me, as the standard system is fine. The tracker installer checked out the factory system and said it was as good as any other system he has come across.

Hope this helps!

I think Paul (UKHSV) has had several conversations with insurance companies regarding this, might be worth dropping him a mail, or on second thoughts he's bound to see this thread within a couple of hours!

Thanks for info from all, Problem is I already insured with my exisiting insurer NU and it will be costly to undo.

Might see if I can appeal to then, wonder if there is an eqivilant Oz standard to Thatcham?

On both my HSV's, I had a cheap (no frills) Thatcham 1 system fitted. The local firm I use fitted a Sigma system, no problems with my previous or current car.
I'm with NU via a broker. Other companies often require
a Tracker.
