Evening all,

Sold my Seat Leon today and now I'm in the market for a bigger/Family car. Budget is circa £6000-£6500 needs to a diesel and preferably under 90k miles,

so far I'm considering and doing my homework on:-

Alfa Romeo 159 1.9jtdm Ti
Mazda 2 2.2TD
Skoda Octavia Vrs
Ford Mondeo 2.0tdi titanium x.

Any other suggestion with in budget are welcome.

Currently the Alpha Ti is top of the pile just for its looks, then the Mazda as they come well equipped. I realize the vrs will be an early facelift model and my budget is asking a lot but you never know .

Scurrys off to check classifieds and search forum for ownership pros n cons

Papa

Reading about the Mazda and its Dpf related issues I'll give this a wide berth I think!

The Mondeo is the best steer of the lot but you pay for it but the 508 & Insignia are good options.

For that price I would want 3d mapped throttle bodies not carbs.

Tbf the Alfa with the 1.9 has similar issues, as will a lot of diesels of that era. However, the 2.0 159 does not but I think it might be out of your price range, unless you opt for a higher mileage example.

You could also get a DPF removal as soon as you get the car possibly? Just for peace of mind.

The Mazda uses diesel in the regen process,if you interrupt the regen it dumps that diesel back into the sump! I thought I'd miss read this at first but apparently not. This doesn't sound good at all.
Iv had a diesel in the past and Iv not had Dpf issues, but they didn't dilute there engine contents

There is a 159 for sale on AT that ticks most boxes BUT its undergone the Dpf delete already, personally I'm ok with modifying cars but the current or proposed mot rules concerning Dpf removal is putting me off. Can anybody clarify if this is law etc

To be honest having ruled out the Mazda I'm kinda set on the Alfa after looking at the alternatives,
