Well I made the decision to get some more noise and picked up a sleeved exhaust from young Matt over in sunny Milton Keynes yesterday as he's got some grand plans and his Chim is being sold. Its off a 500 as it has the flexible connection which I reckon will do no harm once the turbo goes on. Anyway I took the Tvr out briefly yesterday after a couple of weeks in my garage and it stunk of fuel...whilst I was opening the garage door on my return, I left her on the drive and then after reversing her in, there was an obvious wet patch on the drive which after finger sniffing was fuel....b****r! Yes I know how that sounds hehe

So out the garage she came today and after a brief warm up...fuel was lashing out all over the shop and the exhaust yikes Up on stands , crammed myself underneath and off came the exhaust...had to do that anyway and found the leak on a loose fuel filter connection carried out recently by others punch

Whilst I was wedged under I could see how much sh**e had been coated over it all...like feckin everywhere! This was made more annoying as everytime I touched anything it dropped in my bloody eyes...so I couldn't see or move, (the trolley on wheels was good to glide in but made life getting out much more challenging) and no its nothing to do with middle age spread, its because I yet again succumed to purchasing something from Halfrauds!! bounce ! To be fair whatever I scraped it all looked good, but jesus its been waxoiled to death...I'm not a fan.

Now (coupled with all the recent posts of body off talk and shiny chassis's, I just want to go for it even more...read the guide again and now sitting here thinking....I've got the exhaust and rear antiroll bar off and just ordered new exhaust bushes etc....should I just get out the notepad and the freezer bags and crack on idea

But its right on xmas and the turbo is booked for Feb/March.... weeping

personally I think "jubilee" on worm drive clips are pretty useless on small diameter pipes, they cut into the pipe and can distort the hose tail/barb.

This type stay circular as they tighten, far superior, imho smile

The question is how confident are you in doing it yourself and also have you got the time to do it before its booked in for the turbo install. These things always hit problems which add to the timescale.
I for one didn't have the confidence or spanner skills to do a body off chassis refurb so thought it best left to the professionals

To give you some idea, I spent 216 hours doing mine.
That was just my garage time and excludes any time other people spent helping, time researching or purchasing bits and time dropping bits off and collecting.
This would have added in the region of another approximately/guesstimated 50 hours.

From taking it off the road to putting it back was exactly one year (MOT expiry date to new MOT).

However it was very rewarding and the sense of satisfaction with a job well done is emmence.

I also fully agree with the post about using the correct hose clips and not jubilee clips.

Looks good Ged!

I think my mind is made up that I''ll be doing it myself,I''m confident in my spannering skills...but I think its a tad tight on time right now with the turbo planned and it gives me some thinking and prep time.

So I'm going to start it around October next year, which gives me best part of the seasons play time!

Agree pretty much chaps with jubilee's, especially when in awkward and can't see much situations, hence why I bought these puppy's whilst in Halfauds getting the creeper....(fuel pipe clips as they label them) might be one of (the only) product thats any good hehe

Cheers for the comments all.
