My wife ordered a watch for me that should have been delivered today by a courier company who's name consists of 3 letters.

I was at home all afternoon just in case they tried to deliver outside of the 1 hour window they had given. With 15 minutes of the delivery window remaining, I checked the parcel tracking service to find that he had 'delivered' it 18 minutes earlier, and with a photo showing where he had left the parcel.

Big problem was that it wasn't my house, and I didn't recognise where it was. Tried to get hold of couriers but couldn't find a number anywhere. Got hold of the retailer, who managed to contact the courier company, who agreed to send the driver back.

Some time later there's a knock on the door, and it's the delivery driver. Turns out he had tried to deliver it to a neighbour, who wasn't in, so he left it on the doorstep. And big surprise, it was no longer there. Given that he was supposed to get a signature for it and the door step he left it on was in plain sight from the road, what on earth was he thinking!?

Not sure where we go from here. Delivery driver didn't have a clue, and after speaking to the retailer again, they said it was the first time anything like this had happened to them so they weren't sure how to proceed.

I just find it strange that he managed to find the right house when he had to come back.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's that simple, but could do without the associated hassle and worry really.

Retailer is bound to send you a new one. Nothing to do with you if it didn't arrive and especially if you didn't sign for it or they delivered to the incorrect address. The retailer has to send you another one.

The retailer can claim via the courier but their liability may be limited. Therefore the retailer will have to claim the remainder on their goods intransit insurance policy (which all online retailers should have!). But again nothing to do with you. Ask for/demand another one be sent out and ASAP. If one isn't forthcoming in a timely fashion, and you bought on a credit card (or paypal), raise a claim through your card issuer and they will have to credit you back. They will take it up with the retailer. HTH.

Well they aren't bound to send a new one. They can simply refund.

UPS? The UPS courier who seems to operate in my area all the time is such a useless waste of space that I avoid any retailer that use them.

I'm sure the fat wheezing tt has a pocket full of 'we tried to deliver...' cards already filled out, because ringing the doorbell is too much like hard work.

Not UPS - the first and last letters of this one are the same. It may be a question of a refund as after speaking to the retailer again, they have confirmed they will send another one, if they can source one. Presumably if they can't source another one it will have to be a refund.

Eeek, I've got a fairly beefy PSU (RMA replacement) in the UPS system for delivery tomorrow from the Netherlands.

On the plus side, Amazon have really upped their game on the delivery stakes following a few years of Yodel based ste, we now have a steady local delivery driver who spent 5 minutes chatting to me about where he should leave parcels when we're not in. Walking distance supermarket (council) also has Amazon lockers.

UPS?
DPD? DHL? There's more than one three lettered courier wink

I think I must be in a minority of about one that hasn't (as far as I can remember) had a problem with a delivery. I must be extremely fortunate.

That said, I'll order something later and it'll go missing now, just you wait and see laugh

Well we had a photo from the driver showing where he left it, along with a poor quality image of the delivery card he supposedly left. Our neighbour is home now, and there's no delivery card on her doormat, so we've no idea what he did with that, and I didn't think to ask him when he returned as I just assumed he would have put it through the door where he left the parcel.

No idea what's going on here. Toss up between a random opportunist passer-by or a crooked delivery driver. Still like to give the driver the benefit of the doubt, but then we have no idea if he is a permanent employee or a contractor taken on short term to help out with the additional workload.

Oh come on rolleyes. Is it really that hard to connect the dots? Driver obviously on the rob hence all the bullst about leaving it on neighbour's doorstep and putting a card through then acting all surprised and innocent when the parcel has "suddenly" disappeared in the short time frame between him allegedly leaving the parcel on the doorstep and you getting him to call round to answer questions. The fact that the neighbour has said there was no card left (contrary to what the driver said) just further confirms he's on the rob. They've got it down to a tee : deliberately take parcel to neighbour's house, don't knock on the door but instead plop parcel down on doorstep, quickly take photo of it there and make out a scribbly illegible card and take a photo of that, then bin the card, put the parcel back in the van to take home later and the customer gets stitched up with "we delivered it to your neighbour". Luckily you're on speaking terms with your neighbour so could get them to confirm it was a crock of st, but a lot of people don't speak with their neighbours and there was a thread on here a while back where pretty much this happened with an Amazon delivery and the customer got labelled as a fraudster and had their account blocked.

Remember that with the exception of UPS (and possibly one or two others) all the couriers are s/e guys paid a pittance for each delivery so the temptation is high, especially at this time of the year when there are all sorts of expensive gifts on the move.

I had a similar thing. Except the neighbour tried to be on the rob.

All of them are idiots IMO.

They left 2 quite big packages between my trash bins outside my house....anybody could have just picked them up but I guess people thought they were garbage. On the card they put through the letter box it said..."Left them in your safe place as agreed". I have no safe place. Definately not with my trash bins...they are just idiots.
Now I'm waiting for a package to arrive that was supposed to be here Friday. Even though I am paying for Prime..

Just had another issue with the Force of a Parcel.

claiming to have attempted delivery but no knocks on the door and no card in the letterbox.

F#&king idiots. Phoned them and they are going to try to contact their driver.....bet that doesn't happen.

What's the point of getting things on a 48hr courier if you need them by a certain date rolleyes

TNT are the biggest pile of lying st-wkers out there. The only time I used them they dropped a pallet of oak flooring that I was returning off the back of their truck, then repeatedly tried to deliver it back to me on the premise that the recipient had rejected it. In the end we established that it had never got more than 10 miles from my house and the recipient confirmed that had it arrived they would have accepted it and sorted something out.

Generally the rest are OK for me, but I have neighbours that are always in and love signing for my parcels and lots of safe places that items can be left. Amazon get a big thumbs up for delivering on a Sunday, within 24 hours of ordering and DPD have a great setup with their App that lets you control the deliveries and track the driver so you can intercept parcels without the Wife ever seeing them.

The only issue I've had recently was Parcel Force leaving a card that said they'd taken the parcel to the village Post Office, when it had been left with the neighbour.

But TNT are utter st s.
