Is anyone else planning on doing this Audax on Sun 8th Jan?

It's my first audax - but I am comfortable with the distance. Any tips for a newbie? The only events I've done before have been fully supported (think Manchester - Blackpool) with 1000s of people.

If the weather is reasonable then I'll be doing the Hopey New Year audax on the 7th. I'd expect you'll be having a cafe stop at the control mid-way and copious sandwiches and cakes at the finish.

Strava links for both routes are quite amusing - only 5km difference on the routes but ~5000ft of elevation gain difference.

As 100k rides go, that is gentle enough - looks a bit like one of our club runs in fact

The run into York from Elvington can be a bit busy traffic wise, other than that it is a route you can ride at a nice even effort and it goes past enough shops that you can top up your supplies should you need to.

I don't know where the plentiful free parking is that he refers to!

Finished this route yesterday in 4:21 - pretty happy with that.

The route was unbelievably flat and there was some busy roads (we had to cross the A19, which was a nightmare!) but overall a good day out and I'm already planning my next target - the Rochdale 200km in Feb.

I didn't know it was possible to find anything that flat around York! Did someone pop round with an iron beforehand?

Yeah, it's pan flat round here. It's about 9 miles from my house to the nearest hill frown

No idea if there is a record is for most distance with least elevation but last year I managed 60miles with 200ft climbing which is pretty shocking. Still slower than most of you lot riding in bunches though! https://www.strava.com/activities/723166206
